Hey, I wonder if such a topic would be viable? How successful was the Pheonix program for the United States during the Vietnam War? I'm really interested in this topic, but I'm having trouble finding the right sources for it. Could someone give me some suggestions?

Hi all, I am a DP1 student studying at the American International School of Mozambique We started working on our Historical investigations earlier in the year with little support, my HI title is How accurate (historically speaking) is the 2015 film “suffragette” Firstly my sources, Is it best to choose 2 primary sources (for the COPVL) and then compare them to the film in question, or, should I choose 1 primary source and then make the other source the film? Right now what I have done for my introduction is stated the question, timeframe of when the film is supposedly set and discussed my aim, which is essentially to compare and contrast between the…

My subject choices are as follows: Maths HL, Economics HL, English A SL, French B SL, Chemistry and history I am struggling to decide whether to take chemistry or history at higher level and which to take at standard level. In terms of university it doesn't really matter as I want to do economics, but which one would be easier to get a high grade in or which would be more enjoyable?

Hello! I need some suggestions or at least a bit of help with an IA research question. I'm interested on the case of Jack the Ripper, although I am struggling terribly with a research question. I wanted to do something about the consequences after the Jack the Ripper case had been open up to the public. Like did the police changed the way they do their work? How did the public take it? Like that sort of thing, although I'm not sure where to start to do this research question.

I still have a while before I have to officially start choosing a topic for my History IA but i was wondering if these were a good start: How does the play Hamilton describe the victory of the United States in the American revolution? How did the apeasement policy fail in containing Hitler's Nazi ideology, and lead to the second world war? What do you guys think?

I am halfway through my summer holiday and I have not started writing my EE because 1. I'm very confused as to how to write it in the first place 2. I don't know where to start. My supervisor left my current school and did not really give me useful advice or insight while he was there, he did not even read the semi-draft that I gave him so I still don't know if what I've done is on track or not! I've read a lot of tips on how to write history EEs but most of them contradict each other so now I'm so confused as to how I should structure or approach my question. Any advice or guide will help

Are there any websites or online help on how to structure and create a good history IA? I am also struggling with selecting a topic. I know I am going to do something about Catherine the Great as I believe she was a major influence on Modern Russia. However, I am not sure on which part about Catherine the Great I should do. I feel like the overthrowing of her would have a lot of material but might be too popular so I am looking into maybe the impact of one of her policies/acts (medical influence perhaps?) or how she managed to overthrow her own husband to become empress of Russia. Any suggestions or guidance on this?

My HI proposal to my teacher is due tomorrow and I am struggling with forming a question because I hardly know about this topic but I wanted to undertake something out of my comfort zone. Right now I am playing around with the question, How significant were bus boycotts in shaping the direction of legal reformations for African Americans? Does anyone have any ideas of 3 actual points I could use in my body paragraph to definitively argue this? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm taking IB 20th Century History and the HL History exam next year and took IB History of the Americas last year. (My school only offers the HL exam and there is no other option to fulfill that requirement and get my diploma so I have to take them). I got an A but that's because it was not even a class. I turned in 2 assignments all year that took about 30 minutes each at most, and read half of 2 documents. My teacher never taught us anything or gave us any resources at all. (She said the IB curriculum was dumb and gave us a few random documents but mostly we watched ted talks or she ranted about how annoying the freshmen were) However, my classmates with a differen…

Hi, My investigation question so far is "To what extent did the Spanish colonies in South America improve the Spanish economy?" or as my teacher recommended, "To what extent was the Spanish colonies in South America the main factor that affected the Spanish economy between 1492-1650?." Either way, I am stuck as to where to research sources, let alone what I should focus on. Should I focus on just the spanish colonies and analyse two sources with opposing perspectives?

Long story short... I really need help with my History IA question but I'm stuck. I know I want my topic to be about The "Dirty War" and impact on print media, or maybe focus on the disappearances. I've tried many questions but my teacher doesn't give much help besides saying no. My teacher keeps saying I need a specific media piece, date, and something this lead to. Any ideas of what I should focus on to make my topic specific enough and argumentative? Or should I focus on a different aspect of the "Dirty war'? I'm just wondering if the IA topic I picked is too broad: To what extent were economic factors the main cause of the First Opium War in 1839? I'm thinking of arguing that economic factors motivated the war, but the cultural miscommunications were an even greater cause in that they prevented the economic motivators from being resolved peacefully. Hi everyone! I'm currently writing my History IA and I noticed that all the good scores (19-25) all present "different perspectives" of their topics. Can anyone define what IB means by different perspectives? Is it like perspectives from historians who are also speculating the subject or different perspectives/factors that affected the subject? Based on what I've seen in past examples, it looks like its perspectives from other historians. My question is: "To what extent did East-West migration lead to the construction of the Berlin Wall?" and the answer is extremely obvious so I don't know what to put in terms of "different perspectives". As of now, I put "Whil…

What were the reasons for Woodrow Wilson's rejection of the Racial Equality Proposal during the 1919 Paris Peace Conference? Hello! I am a grade 11 HL History student, and have the task of choosing a topic for both my IA and EE. I am very interested in ancient history, e.g. the Roman Empire, Alexander the Great or the Greek city states - I told my teacher that I would like to write either the HI or EE on one of these (most likely Rome), and she said that the one glaring problem with such topics is the lack of sources and the need to rely on secondary sources, since these events took place thousands of years ago. For those of you who have written either the Historical Investigation or Extended Essay on ancient history, what do you think of this? Is it any more difficult to find good sources than…

Hi, I have to pick a topic that isn’t too broad and I’m having difficulty with that. At first I was planning to do “Castro’s economic and social influence on the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis” but my teacher said it was too much of a broad topic He said : “If I can make a suggestion, I think that your question might be a bit too broad. Naturally, Fidel Castro had a hand in shaping events, but remember that the decision to place missiles on Cuban soil was part of a wider Soviet strategy. If you want to talk about Castro's impact on it, you'll want to clarify by looking at the degree to which he influenced Soviet policy-makers” What exactly would be a good …

Hi, I'm planning on writing my EE in History. I am focusing on the period of Vietnam from around 1980 -1990 , this is the transitioning period in which there was this thing call reform/rejuvenation , a transitioning period from a more centralised almost everything and centrally planned market to a more capitalist and private owned business after the party failed with centralisation and state owned and all the 5 years plan. I struggle to narrow the scope or to come up with a question. I wanted to compare before and after the reform but my teacher said that's not a great idea since I cant measure how effective something is , etc . So I was wondering where can I go wit…

My first pass at this EE led me to this research question: In what way was the Middle Ages a period of progress and cultural development? Does this work as a RQ? The feedback I have received is that my paper is reading as too narrative. I am discussing the time period and it's labeling as an era of regression (between the Roman empire and the Renaissance), then speaking in detail all of the amazing developments that occurred during the time. Any suggestion on how to shift this topic to work for an EE?
