Hi, My question right now is: To what extent was the popularity of the radio and the Fireside Chats during the Great Depression the primary cause of Franklin D. Roosevelt's re-election in 1936? My teacher said that there are too many variables surrounding national elections and that I would need a more measurable factor. Any ideas on how I can modify my question to be more narrow?

For those of you that have taken Paper 2 History, Are we allowed to use Second World War in Pacific Ocean and WW2 in Europe as two different wars taken place in different regions? My teacher said I can't use both at the same time, but the IB History book suggests that I can. Does anyone know the answer?

Hello, so I am taking the November exam. My school teaches the Topic 12: The Cold War: Superpower tensions and rivalries (20th century) for Paper 2. For anyone who has done this question, will the IB always make questions one about the start of Cold War and another one about the end of the Cold War? Because I believe that is the pattern for most of cases, so I am only planning to know the start of the Cold War. Please help asap!

Hey y'all, I have started my EE research and I was wondering if this is a good research question: "To what extent was the Great Purge (1936-1938) in the Soviet Union a result of Stalin and his Politburo?" The reason I chose this was because historians debate whether the cause of the purge was on the ruthless nature of Stalin and his politburo, or whether it was a combination of Stalin and regional leadership that pushed the purge too far. The difficulty I'm finding is that it's hard for me to create a single clear argument because there is so much debate on it and I don't think that one is necessarily right over the other. Help would be much appreciated.

Hi Everyone! I am doing my history IA and I am stuck on the limitations of this particular book. What are some general limitations of books I could mention in the OPVL? Or if any of you know this book or author specifically: A History of Russia by Riasanovsky. My IA is on Stolypin's agrarian reforms. Thank you.

My History IA is due on December but I have to make a proposal which is due on Monday next week. I've been so busy with other subjects that I wasn't able to finish my proposal. I've been stressing out over what topic I should use but now I've found one: Gender Equality in Cuba. I've always been interested in the progressive history of achieving gender equality. Now, my question is "To what extent is Fidel Castro’s involvement in women’s rights between 1959 and 1990 driven by his ideological interests?". Please help! Quick!

We have been practicing for Paper 1 in history class recently, and I have discovered that I am bad at managing my time throughout the test. I believe we are supposed to spend 10 minutes on the first question (content based question, and meaning of visual document), 10 on the OPCVL, 15 on the compare and contrast, and 25-30 minutes on the essay question. My only problem is that I can't seem to wrap up the other parts fast enough to get to the essay question. Does anyone have any tips on how to speed up the process so that I can make it to the essay question with time to spare? Thanks!

Hi there! I have already chosen my question for my history IA but I can't find any good sources at all!! My question is "To what extent did Berlin emigration lead to the construction of the Berlin Wall?" I was hoping to find original records of emigration statistics, Yuri Andropov's letter about the 50% decrease in Eastern Germans, and articles about the general border system of Eastern Berlin, but I can't find any! :(( All the potentially good sources are also college journals/essays that I don't have access to or not free. I really feel like this topic isn't for me at this point but at the same time, I don't want to let it go! Please, if…

So I have a question that I'm kind of forced to commit to more or less (because of deadlines), but I'm struggling a lot with finding a definitive answer to the question. I wanted to focus on the personification of death during and following the plagues of the Middle Ages, but due to the nature of my question I can't nail down a point I feel is defensible through any of the evidence I've found (I mostly use JSTOR which isn't always helpful and I can't find many reliable sources otherwise that aren't books that cost like $70). I would love feedback and maybe an insight as to where to go from here. I'm super stressed (again, because of deadlines) and I really can't afford t…

Hi there! I'm currently trying to create a good research question for my History IA but I'm not too sure if it specific enough. To what extent did the launch of Sputnik shift the US and USSR from violent resort through the nuclear arms race? (or should I put "through mutual assured destruction"?) I'm going to create more questions, but as of now, it's the very first question I've come up with. I feel like it's still a bit too broad but I want to get multiple opinions before I show it to my teacher. Please reply about originality too!

My chosen topic is how Nazi propaganda and media contributed to the creation of a totalitarian state under Hitler, and my research question was “To what extent did Nazi control of the media and propaganda enable the creation of a totalitarian state under Hitler?” However, my teacher has told me that the scope is was too large and it is too broad, hence I need help trying to narrow this down. Any tips or help is appreciated Tysm

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could look over my History IA question and offer any criticism or concerns that they notice. I've been kinda struggling to get this question to sound good and I'm worried that it could be too judgemental... Im having trouble choosing good topic for or even a good question for my history IA. I would like to talk about the Napoleonic Wars but I feel my question is the farthest thing from being good. To what extent did the napoleonic war of 1804 affect the governments of europe as a whole? I also can not think of what countries exactly to focus on. I am very lost.

So my IA draft is due in about 10 days and I figure I should start on it soon, and my teacher isn't answering my texts, wonderful! I want to do my topic on the how accurately the movie Argo (2012) represents the Iranian hostage crisis and the rescue operation. Is this appropriate, especially with such a recent movie? if anyone has any examples of old IAs done on movies that they could share that would be great! Thanks a bunch

So for my History IA, I really wanted to do something relating to the Cuban Missile Crisis because that is what I'm really interested in. After doing some research, I realized that the Cold War in general is a really overdone topic and that I either have to change my topic or have an original take on some aspect of the Cuban Missile Crisis. So is it overdone if I focus on the role of television on the public's perception of JFK during the CMC, or even the role of public opinion of JFK during the CMC, or should I just completely scrap this idea and try to figure out something else. Because I really want to do the CMC, but I'd rather get a good score on my IA by doing somet…

Hi there! I'll be writing a essay on the Origins of the Cold War, and I'm slightly confused on how exactly I should structure it. I know that the three big conferences were important towards breaking the Grand Alliance, but I'm not too sure what else I can touch upon. Is there a way that you guys could help me a bit? So far, I guess I could talk about the ideological differences, politically?, but I'm not too sure what else I could say... Thank you all so much in advance!!

Hi! I'm doing my IA on Mao Tse Tung's politics on women, around 1930-1950. The most interesting and relevant thing I could find was the cause and consequence of the Law of Marriage in China implemented during his government, but I don't know how to make it up to be a question. I want to research the different reactions that this controversial law had and how the role of women changed, so if anyone could have some idea of how to compose it, it would be amazing! thanks.

Hey everyone! Was wondering if it's possible to do a history IA about chinese/other asian histories, and what kinds of topics people learn within those areas. My school only teaches western history, but I think there were some other topics that are taught in other schools, so I would like to know what kinds of things might be appropriate for investigation in eastern history. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I've been struggling quite a lot in finding a specific topic to write about for my history IA. I've narrowed it down to these topics: •Aztec empire (specifically focusing on what caused it's collapse, such as the Spaniard's military tactics for example) • Fidel Castro's involvement in women's rights • Cesar chavez tactics to gain recognition of the importance of farm workers • CIA's involvement in the Chilean coup d'etat (I've seen another person on the forum do the same topic. So I don't know how to change it up if I were to pick this topic) Essentially what I'm asking is which topic has the most potential to work for the IA? And how s…

I'm doing my IA this summer, meaning I don't have a way to contact my teacher with questions. Does it matter how many words I have in part A and B and C if the word count all together is 2,200? My total words at the moment are 2,300 and I have 1,600 in my investigation (I know, I've already had like 5 panic attacks about it) whilst the other are shorter but still have everything they need I think? Advice on what I should do? My deadline is on August 10th.

I have to submit a potential History IA topic by July 21st. I'm not allowed to choose anything after 2000. I live in Mobile, AL just in case anybody would like to know so they can help m find a topic. If anybody would like to let me know how they came about their topic idea that would be cool. I currently have no interests or ideas of what direction I'm heading in for my topic.

Hello Fellow History students. My History exam is coming up and I studying for all my topics, including the cold war for paper 2. My teacher told us that wars like the Korean war and Vietnam war do not count as crises as they are wars. However when I look at online IB notes for Cold War Crises the Korean war is identified as a crisis. So I am wondering does the Korean War actually count as crisis. I plan to go over two crises for paper 2, if the Korean war counts then I will study it instead of the Hungarian uprising.
