We have a thread for law and medicine, but we don't really have a thread for people who want to study engineering in university. In order to keep the majority of the posts about engineering mostly in the same place so that people can find them more easily, I've created this thread to help people out. I'm a second year student in chemical engineering and can help with pretty much any kind of general engineering questions you might have, whether it's what courses to take in the IB, general procedures for applying to universities for engineering, or what to expect in an engineering program once you're there. If you have a school-specific question, such as applying to MIT or …

Hello to all future Law students, I've been on the forum for a while and I've seen that there are quite a few of you who plan on studying/want to study Law at University. I'm currently a second-year Law student at LSE in the UK and I like to think I have a pretty good idea of what studying Law is about at University and a career beyond. I figured I'd start a thread where all of us can come together and talk about Law, what it actually means to study it, what it's about, what you can expect beyond a vague idea of it being challenging, and such. I'm not saying that I will have all the answers, but I will endeavour to answer as many questions as I can. I'm sure there must be…

Good day everyone, Now many people face problems once reaching their senior year. Their whole tiime is occupied by IB work, despite the fact that there are other exams to worry about. Time management is not the major topic here, it's the admission tests. Many have probably heard of the common ones (such as the SATs, BMATs..). Anyway, you will find a list of the most important admission tests in many countries and for different majors. Any additional help is greatly appreciated. There are a lot of people who, even in their second year of IB, are directionless in terms of university applications. This post will aim to give you an insight into applying to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom and the United States. Australia Canada Finland New Zealand Singapore United Kingdom United States Standardised tests English Language tests This is a community project, and if anybody has anything to add please feel free to. The section on Canada is particularly lacking since I don't know a lot about studying there and since we do have a lot of Canadian members (or a Canadian invasion rather), someone could oblige in filling it up? Finland Why on earth would I apply to Finland? The reason, in a nutshell, is that higher education is completely free of charge to everyone - no matter whether you're Finnish, Dutch or South African. How to apply to, and choose, a university The number of English language undergraduate courses is limited, so you won't have too much choice. All universities offer MSc/MA courses in English, but since this site is concentrated on students who are moving from high school to university, I'll concentrate on that. Basically the only university offering undergraduate courses in English is the Helsinki School of Economics (Aalto University from 1.1.2010). HSE is considered the be…

Hello everyone, I was planning on going to Uni in Germany, and in order to do that, IB students have to go to a "Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle" to get their Diploma accepted. My own diploma is not getting accepted because I took an online course (economics SL), and my sister's diploma is not getting accepted because she is taking self-taught German A, as they don't offer German A at our school. This is frustrating, and T just want to make everyone aware that you cannot study in Germany if you take a self-taught course or an online course

Good day everyone, Thought that a thread like this might help around here, taking into consideration the large amounts of IB students around here looking forward to med school. In this thread, you can discuss, ask questions and/or share opinions about application procedures, personal statements and anything regarding going to med school - from the IB of course... Well then, enjoy!! (This post is copied from the same thread on TSR, just to highlight a few things). The Pre-med System (American and some Canadian Universities) Pre-med (as in four year undergraduate study) means that you have to accomplish three things: - You have to have a Bachelor (BS) degree in any fiel…

So future IB students, or people who are just crazy to hang around *cough* Elsa, Hien, *Graeme *cough*, what are your Uni plans? Or where are you accepted and attending? Right now, it's the Uni of Auckland. My plans are always perceptible to change though, so I dunno if that will, but maybe to Aussie land then. I need 26 points to enter surprisingly, but that's the minimum.

Hello, after looking around, I decided to post my question since I couldn't find any relevant posts. I'm wanting to do my undergraduate studies in psychology in either the USA or Australia. I've lived in America for 11 years, but since Australia seems much cheaper, I'm also interested in it. My question is: does anyone know differences in the undergrad studies in these countries? If I complete the B.A. in either, does the accreditation transfer between the two countries? I am also wanting to do graduate psychology studies after a 3 or 4 year Bachelor's degree... any opinions on where to do this? I figured that if I completed my B.A. in Australia and then moved to the US…

Well first we need to see the admission policy of these schools and here is where the problems begin. Lets say you are a average white American in a IB school and you want to get into Harvard. Hey everyone! Well, the reason why I created this topic is because its been a question that I've had for a while and I can't really find an answer to it! So, here's my question; Do I have to be good in chemistry or even like chemistry to study and do well in medicine? Of course, biology is a given, but does chemistry play a large role in medicinal studies? Thanks!

The thread for all us IBSers who have gotten offers to study in 2009. As all the IB kids only talk about UK and US for universities and generally have little knowledge on what is outside those two country's. I am asking people to contribute with universities known for having good ENGLISH based education. Most IB kids focus on either going to UK/US or their own country, which often has cources in their native language. So I started this topic to invite people to share their knowledge about universities where you can study in english, both bachelor and master (in many country's there seem to be more master cources in english then bachelor) So i just start with some universities i know, and the cources. Hi, So, I live in the United States and I would like to go to a university in the EU (preferably England, Greece, or Cyprus), and I was browsing through some colleges websites. When I was looking at Cambridge's website (I won't get in, but it looks like fun ) some of the requirements were things I had never heard of. For matriculation purposes, grade 5 or above in the Standard Level of the IB is considered equivalent to GCSE grades A, B or C and grade 5 or above at …

Hey, I'm new to this forum so I hope this is the right way to ask questions :/ I'm a 14 year old 8th grader, i've been taking math with 11th and 12th graders for a while now and i just finished the Hl math course, did the exams and got a 6. My question is: If I send a certificate with the grade on it and proof that I'm only 14 turning 15 to MIT, could i get a full scholarship (or any sort of scholarship) to go to MIT after i finish school (perhaps only as long as i get a diploma)? Thanks in advance,

A little bit of background: I'm an African-American with parents that have a pretty good income, I go to Rufus King IB School which is the best public school in Wisconsin (214th in the US), and I'm a junior. In September 2006, my dad was called up to go to Iraq for 2 and a half years. Although it isn't really a valid excuse and shouldn't have had so much effect on me, this pretty much marked the point where I became very unmotivated, lazy, and pessimistic. I sometimes skipped school completely and once got a truancy notice. I got a 2.239 accum over those two years. The mark period that my dad returned (March of 2008) I got a 3.0, which still wasn't my best. Fast-forward t…

Hi all, I'm in the middle of IB and I'll be graduating in May 2009. Right now I have a 4.17 GPA with very decent grades overall. However, I don't take classes that are too difficult: Highers: History, English A2, Dutch A1 , Spanish B Stanards: Environmental Systems, Math studies. I've done AP Spanish Langauge (got a 4/5), AP US History (3/5) and AP Environmental Science (2/5). As you can see I'm not the best in math and science, luckily I have no interest in studying that. I see a lot of people panicking over tuition fees for high status universities, but I don't see why! Most IB students are going into sciences and business. The job market for an Ivy League or Oxbridge graduate is probably decent and besides scholarships, there are various loans that can be paid back a long time after graduation. There's government loans, bank loans and all sorts of international scholarships given to the few admitted to Ivy Leagues and Oxbridge. So why is everybody so worried? My parents clearly don't have the money to pay 200k for an undergrad at an Ivy League, but I still will go if accepted because there are various loans and scholarships that I can ge…

For those Florida students and those who know, its USF Very weak. I was offered a starting point of Biology and Chemistry II, for medicine, skipping the freshman year. Then, since they are both HL courses, I was offered additional credit and with persistent marks I would be skipped to Bio and Chem III (scores needed to be 6 or 7). I'm planning on doing Philosophy at Harvard or Law at Oxford. I have no idea which to pick and I'm divided between the two. My ultimate aim is to become a practising lawyer in the UK, so I thought Oxford Law ftw! but then I spoke to a lot of people in the UK legal profession, including a recruitment representative from a top top law firm, and they were all like, "It doesn't matter..."
