Hello to all future Law students, I've been on the forum for a while and I've seen that there are quite a few of you who plan on studying/want to study Law at University. I'm currently a second-year Law student at LSE in the UK and I like to think I have a pretty good idea of what studying Law is about at University and a career beyond. I figured I'd start a thread where all of us can come together and talk about Law, what it actually means to study it, what it's about, what you can expect beyond a vague idea of it being challenging, and such. I'm not saying that I will have all the answers, but I will endeavour to answer as many questions as I can. I'm sure there must be…

Hello everyone, I was planning on going to Uni in Germany, and in order to do that, IB students have to go to a "Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle" to get their Diploma accepted. My own diploma is not getting accepted because I took an online course (economics SL), and my sister's diploma is not getting accepted because she is taking self-taught German A, as they don't offer German A at our school. This is frustrating, and T just want to make everyone aware that you cannot study in Germany if you take a self-taught course or an online course

We have a thread for law and medicine, but we don't really have a thread for people who want to study engineering in university. In order to keep the majority of the posts about engineering mostly in the same place so that people can find them more easily, I've created this thread to help people out. I'm a second year student in chemical engineering and can help with pretty much any kind of general engineering questions you might have, whether it's what courses to take in the IB, general procedures for applying to universities for engineering, or what to expect in an engineering program once you're there. If you have a school-specific question, such as applying to MIT or …

Finland Why on earth would I apply to Finland? The reason, in a nutshell, is that higher education is completely free of charge to everyone - no matter whether you're Finnish, Dutch or South African. How to apply to, and choose, a university The number of English language undergraduate courses is limited, so you won't have too much choice. All universities offer MSc/MA courses in English, but since this site is concentrated on students who are moving from high school to university, I'll concentrate on that. Basically the only university offering undergraduate courses in English is the Helsinki School of Economics (Aalto University from 1.1.2010). HSE is considered the be…

There are a lot of people who, even in their second year of IB, are directionless in terms of university applications. This post will aim to give you an insight into applying to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom and the United States. Good day everyone, Now many people face problems once reaching their senior year. Their whole tiime is occupied by IB work, despite the fact that there are other exams to worry about. Time management is not the major topic here, it's the admission tests. Many have probably heard of the common ones (such as the SATs, BMATs..). Anyway, you will find a list of the most important admission tests in many countries and for different majors. Any additional help is greatly appreciated. I am going to apply to university and they require "original transcripts or certified copies of the original transcript (stamped and signed by the issuing school)" for my application. I do not want to send my original IB diploma (obviously) so what do I send them? What do they mean with a "certified copy"? Is a normal photocopy of the diploma not enough?

Gahhh, I've taken an interest in applying to Irish universities in 2018, and then I see this (I attached the screenshot of the entry requirements page at one of the unis above). What do you guys think? I'm super stressed as it is, and honestly, I am so afraid. Do you think that the change will be positive or negative? With positive, I mean lowering the requirements and making it easier for IB students? I have absolutely no idea what to expect and I keep thinking about it every single day, which makes me incredibly stressed :(( Also, sorry in advance if this is in a wrong section or anything, I have never posted before so I'm a bit unsure about this whole forum…

I've decided not to take my IB bio credit in university (which I could use to skip Bio 107 at the University of Alberta) because I feel that taking the class in university should be a decent GPA booster. However, I'm just wondering how much more material there is to learn besides what I've already learned in IB Biology. Looking at the Bio 107 syllabus it seems like IB has covered all the topics (ie cell structure, cell respiration, photosynthesis, cell reproduction, DNA) but is this material explored in much more detail than IB or is it mostly the same? Obviously I'm not expecting comments specifically on what the course through the U of A is like, but I'd appreciate h…

I'm currently in grade 11. I have 3 7s for Bio chem HL and math SL, a 6 for Chinese A2 SL. But my english A1 is a 5 and B&M HL dropped from a 6 last semester to 4 this semester because of format issues.... For english, 5 is the highest in the class. its one of those subjects that no one can get good marks for until the exam semester since the teacher says that our skills are progressive.... For B&M, it was format issues..... he said i needed to have everything under the right headings for this assignment.... so Harvard is my dream. I really really love Harvard because of many reasons My SAT is 2250 and have a great load of ECs Do you think that 4 in B&M…

Ok so I have a few miscellaneous questions about applying to university in the UK and the US. (I'll probably add more if I think of more) Some of them may be a bit silly, but bear with me please! US - Firstly, does applying for financial aid affect your chances of admission at all if the US college is NOT needs-blind? I've read conflicting reports on this. (If it changes things, I'm an international student). Secondly, is your predicted score as important as your final score? Or is it less important but still important, or not important at all? Also, with the common application EC bit, what if the hours that you've done things have varied a heap - should you just averag…

Hello everyone! As I am a student who has been researching universities over the last year or so, my curiosity in the various rankings of them has gotten the better of me. Therefore, I decided to find every university ranking I could and averaged them all out by weighting certain rankings more than others. I normally adjusted the ranking weights on what I thought were the most influential, but also, the most detailed, unique and multi-dimensional in their methodology. The main reason I compiled this ranking was to look at how various universities fared against each other against numerous criteria, both subjective and objective, and size independent and size dependent. I di…

I have passed my IB diploma with maths and physics at SL and chemistry at HL. I want to get admitted to electronics and telecommunications engineering, but am facing problems obtaining the eligibility certificate. Mumbai University says that physics and maths need to be at HL and chemistry needs to be at SL for EXTC and that I am not even eligible to apply for engineering. Is this true? If not, how do I get around obtaining the eligibility certificate?

A suggestion ran through my mind the other day, and I wanted to see whether or not other people thought it was a good idea. Our college counselor is collecting predicted grades for my class as I speak, and, as with all other years, none of our teachers will predict anyone a 7. They have openly stated this to our class, saying that they don't want to be responsible for anyone getting a lower grade in the final exams and blaming them. I think this is completely unfair, because every year tons of people in my school get 7's in at least one subject. And I know that I'm capable of getting one at least, if not more. What can we do to get the predicted grades that we reall…

Both my parents are in finance, have degrees in business administration, and are chartered accountants. My higher levels are history, English A1 and visual arts. I love those courses, and up to this point I wanted to study philosophy/political science after highschool or play piano full-time. That being said, my highest grades are language courses, i.e. French, Spanish, Mandarin. But this IB2 year I've developed a taste for science and math. Knowing that there are right answers and rigor to your methods is really appealing after all this time I've spent in history, visual arts and English. As a result, I want to study actuarial sciences now. Also, prior to IB I've always…

NOTE: Please ignore my last thread about drugs... Anyway, my SL math exam is tomorrow, and I am scared sh*tless about failing it. For reasons which I would rather keep to myself, I only had 2 days to study, and I think I know everything. However, I need to study probability and trig heavily. I have a 96 in the course. However, I'm worried that I might fail and get something like a 60 something. JUST FOR REASSURANCE, does anyone know anybody who had a 60-something in a high school prerequisite course, and still made it to uni? I already had a really bad mark in SL physics, so I don't want another bad mark in math either...

Hey! In my desperate quest to find an alternative route into medicine, besides my IB final grade (which was not sufficient for most universities that I applied to ) I found out that, at some universities in the UK, one can apply to a medicine programme as a "graduate applicant". Meaning that you start by taking a degree in a RELATED field (such as: Biochemistry, physiotherapy, pharmacology etc.) and then apply to medicine. It is preferred that one completes the degree, however in some cases it is possible to switch to medicine after only the first stage of the degree. My question to you is: When applying to medicine as a graduate applicant, regardless of degree, what…

A little bit of background: I'm an African-American with parents that have a pretty good income, I go to Rufus King IB School which is the best public school in Wisconsin (214th in the US), and I'm a junior. In September 2006, my dad was called up to go to Iraq for 2 and a half years. Although it isn't really a valid excuse and shouldn't have had so much effect on me, this pretty much marked the point where I became very unmotivated, lazy, and pessimistic. I sometimes skipped school completely and once got a truancy notice. I got a 2.239 accum over those two years. The mark period that my dad returned (March of 2008) I got a 3.0, which still wasn't my best. Fast-forward t…

So I've been thinking about two options: to study only commerce, or to study law and commerce - With commerce only, you need a low IB score to get into the course. However, since I want to go into finance, this may be more beneficial for me. - With the latter, you need a higher IB score of above 40 and doing law (and commerce) sounds better. Most IB students at my school tend to get in the 40s, and I don't want to waste all my education and a potentially high score by going to uni and doing a course which requires a low score that doesn't 'sound very good'. I want to stay in Australia, so going to a good UK or US uni to study commerce isn't an option I don't think…

I'm trying to look around for universities and courses therein to look into even though I'm admittedly late to do so. I just cant find a straight place to start, I don't know what I want to study or where, and with my grades my parents are telling me that liberal arts isn't exactly an option for me so I'm a little stumped. Im trying to look around for places i can get into but all i keep getting back is just huge lists of best schools which I cant get into. Are there any useful resources for finding a good university to go to if you really are starting from scratch in terms of knowing what you want?
