The answer to this question comes down to one thing - who exactly is it that decides what counts for CAS?? Answer: your CAS Co-ordinator! Not the IBO, not people here, not other schools and other CAS Co-ordinators, not your friends or your teachers... the individual person in charge of CAS at your school. You'd be amazed how much this varies between schools - some schools are happy for you to write online blogs and play videogames, whereas other schools would laugh in your face if you suggested those things as CAS. Some of you may even be laughing now - but if you could get CAS for those things, wouldn't you? So, if you want to be really 100% sure that an a…

How's everyone doing on their CAS? What activiities does your school offer (especially for Service) For Service: my school has a Cambodia trip with this ngo called hope international. obviously you have to pay but i went last year and its defenitely a trip that changed my life. we stayed in a little town called pursat, between pnom penh and the famous ankor wat (cant spell) and we help build wells and schools. my whole sense perseption (tok word there) changed, and i see the world in a completely different view - however cliche that sounds. im glad that i did ib,a nd that cas exists. but i know a lot of people out there abo****ely despises cas. tell me your opinions wha…

Hello, For the C part of CAS, my fellow students and I decided that we want to make a blog where we review good TV shows. The details of the blog are as follows. The website was created by me, but each student is assigned their own TV show and tab on the website. They create their own content and upload it themselves. Although there are 6 tabs on the website, it is simply a forum of sorts. It is not collaborative in nature, and everyone does their own work. My question is this: Does this fulfill the requirement for creativity for CAS? Any feedback arguing either side would be greatly appreciated. Disclaimer, I might use your argument with m…

I'm currently doing several CAS experiences but I'm looking for something that will meet the "global engagement" learning outcome. Is there anything you can do that count as creativity and "global engagement"? For example, writing a research paper on a global issue? Is that acceptable, would it count for CAS and meet this learning outcome?

Just wondering what are some of the best major CAS projects that are the most memorable/creative at your school? For my school, someone started a non profit organization called 'Backpack 4 Kids', which donated hundreds of backpacks to finincially unstable families in the Philippines. Pretty cool.

Hi everyone! I'm quite confused with something our CAS coordinator recently told us about. He said we need to complete a month long project to pass CAS and that it NEEDS to be done during the second year. I've tried searching on google to see if this is actually something that needs to be done or he's just making this up to make us do more CAS hours. But i've found nothing. Did you have to do this? I hope you can answer with your own experiences

So, I'm finally getting around to slowly chisling off my CAS hours. I've already got 40 out of the way, but I just recently colored in an anime poster that my friend drew for our anime club's annual Valentine's Day party. It took me all of an hour to do, it was rather simple. But as I started to fill out a CAS form for it, I found myself wondering if I should count it as a CAS hour at all. The project just doesn't seem fitting for the questions: "Explain what you hoped to accomplish through this project" - ...to...color inside the lines? "What difficulties did you encounter, and how did you overcome them?" - One of my red markers dried out. So I got another one. "Wh…

Hello I have heard that for those students that are finishing the diploma in 2013 that the CAS outline is different. Rather than the 50, 50, 50 it is required that cas goes throughout consistant 18 months. I was just curious about how many hours per week this requires. I have seen other forums but the hours are in relation to the 150 hour requirement. How many hours do you think is recommended per week throughout this 18 month period? Thanks in advance

This year in my batch all of our CAS reflections need to be sent as my batch comes under the 5 year review...and so my CAS co-ordinator says that everything we do in creativity also needs to benefit someone. We usually have these mass production plays and that counts for a major part of creativity but this year none of that is allowed.. So what are the activities that I can do that comes under creativity and also helps someone else. Im guessing it is supposed to be things like garage sale but I'm not sure. And is anyone else facing the same problem??

Hi guys I just found these forums and it's great to know there's an IB forum out there! I started my first year of IB just one week ago, and I have some CAS questions. 1. I don't have many CAS ideas, can I find some here on the CAS board? 2. I heard about faking CAS hours, is that possible? (I will not do it unless I will eventually really have to) 3. We were given some kind of ManageBac account. Will I have to submit all the activities I did on there? 4. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of different CAS activities I must have? 5. Will donating blood, for example, or running in the park count for service and activity? Who would be the supervisor? Thank you.

A language as Creativity

Due to that I'm not continuing my foreign language from earlier school years as an IB subject, I thought about taking it through Creativity instead. However I'm not sure about the practical matters when it comes to taking a language as CAS. For instance, as you need someone to sign what you have done, I guess you couldn't learn it just by yourself through reading and writing and so on. Does anyone have any experience on this? Obviously I want to learn the language as efficient as possible, but it still needs to be counted as CAS (most of it, anyway). Thank you for your help.

I'm new here and I'm excited to be a member here. The purpose of this topic is to look for help. To introduce first, I'm in a ib school, which is very small with a few students and teachers. Most students are local, and also there are international students from different countries. However, as an ib school, our CAS system is unsatisfactory. We can do CAS only three hours a week, in regular periods. Everyone is forced to join no more than one in each period. What's worse, available activities are on at the same time, which provides us with few choices. Then, I was determined to talk about it with school. However, our CAS coordinator kind of disagreed and said that : …

Our school uses ManageBac, which is a system that allows us to record our CAS hours + write our reflections. Once we submit info about the activity, our supervisor is supposed to approve it and then we can write the reflection. However, my supervisor added my activities and so I don't have reflections for some of my activities. When I asked him he said it was alright, but I'm still worried. Right now I cannot add reflections on ManageBac because the activities are locked, but is there another method by which I can still write reflections and submit them to IB?

ok i'm freaking out. i'm just about to enter senior year. so i asked my school's CAS Supervisor earlier this year about how the long-term project has to continue for 18 months. she said that it meant it had to have the potential to be sustainable for 18 months, not that you have to do it for exactly 18 months so I've based my project on that, starting a cleaning/environmental campaign overseas in the summer and preparing for it throughout the schoolyear. it's only going to last for about 9 months. and the work isn't on a regular basis. am I screwed?

Our CAS coordinator (and I think also the IBO) says that you should write down every single CAS activity you do on your CAS diary. Does somebody actually do that? In our cases, we mostly have too many hours (over hundred, especially those who play instruments) and therefore just don't write some down. It would take ages to keep track of them all (it would not be a diary, but a book) and we probably are too lazy to do that... Are there any other people doing the same thing like we do? Or is it not really allowed at all to not note down your CAS activities? I mean we are at least not falsifying them...

Okay hi everyone! I'm new to the site and this is my first post so be nice.. My CAS coordinator suggested that i should set up a website for the IB community in our school because I'm quite good with technology and computers so I accepted. Now the problem is, I want it to look as professional as i can make it look. By that I mean it should be at least up to the standard as an amateur forum. I just wanted to ask how i could set up a page like this one, what software i need to use, any code needed? Thank you in advance!

I am in my schools varsity soccer team and I really want to use it as my action part of CAS. Please give me some info, all help would be much appreciated!!!!

Okay, so I have tons of creative and service hours but I have zero action hours. I understand the point of service and creativity and I understand how they can be combined and stuff but what does action mean exactly? If I don't do sports what can I do? i.e. If I run a poetry program (which I do as creativity and service b/c it's free and i'm helping kids get better with their creative side) what can I add as action? Would action be me performing the poems? Bringing them to writing conventions? Just showing up to the meetings and talking and writing? So if anybody could please help me out by telling me what action means according to the baove activity and what it means i…

Right now, I'm pretty ahead in my CAS hours--a total of 88! But I do indeed have doubts: Should juniors even be this ahead? Or is it likely that I'm doing something wrong? One of my first activities was the Heart Walk in Atlanta last year. I did over and hour--probably two--of walking a nice 5 kilometers. But my adviser gave me 10 for Action. This probably included the planning for the event, but still, it's on my mind. What should I do? My school uses the ManageBac software. So does this mean that I don't have to fill out the CAS Summary/Log Form?

Well, my CAS coordinator is annoyed with me because I was meant to hand in my log about six weeks ago but haven't yet done it. The CAS itself is not so bad; I have over 50 hours in about 5 months and a pretty definite 5 hours coming in per week. Anyone have any ideas for activities that aren't 'artsy' in the traditional sense (I don't like painting, drawing etc. It's just not me)? People have trouble deciding on a CAS project. Have you heard of, seen, or done any interesting or new CAS projects? Do you have any cool ideas? I plan on creating an after school multi-cultural dance program at a local charter school. Many of the children at the charter school can not afford dance lessons. At my school there are many groups that perform dances from their culture. The children will be able to learn dances and decide which type of dance they would like to learn. It would create global awareness, be creative, active, and service.

Hello everyone! So one of my many CAS projects consisted in creating a dance for my school's talent show! HAHAHAHAH what makes it reaaaallllyyyy hilarious and strange is that people at my school said that they couldn't imagine me an IB diploma student without any art related IB classes doing such a project! This is because my IB subjects for the diploma are the following: Chemistry - HL Physics - HL English A2 - HL Spanish A1 -HL Economics - SL Math - SL Also, I feel reaally akward when dancing at parties in this country (Ecuador) because the music they mainly play is reggaeton which according to the people at the parties, should be danced in a reaally suggestive way. So for a long time now, I've had this idea for a unique puzzle game (around 10 years). Before, I started learning how to program in Objective-C on my own, but eventually had no time to continue, and forgot how. Anyways, I'm looking for a programmer and perhaps graphics design (Android and iOS) that could propel this idea forward, + for CAS, + we can make money! I can guarantee that the idea for this game is pretty neat, and with effort and commitment, will be successful. The game itself and the graphics are pretty basic, so you don't need to be an expert to program or design it. If interested, add me on Facebook: Mit Svn. It would be a great experience!

Hi. Our CAS-coordinator is a nightmare. She sends us emails every f****** day, telling us to take more initiative and remember to reflect on our activities. I am done. I am finished with CAS. After 6 months! I started this autumn and I am finished Spring 2016. We are having CAS lessons at school, every week. 1 hour every week where she says the same, over and over again: "You have to take initiative", and it is the fifth time I had to stand in front of the class and share what I am doing as my 18-month activity. We are getting sooooooo damn tired of her. So my question: Are these CAS-lessons at school mandatory? Can the school actually give us absence for not showing up…

I heard some might, but I also heard it has been many changes on the IB policies so I wanted to be sure. - Giving classes on HTML (or any topic, may be first aid or something like that) to a group of people - Taking guitar lessons - A public show of any kind (working on this, maybe street magic or something like that) - Helping tourists - Designing websites as IB help guides I could get a supervisor in any of those, but I wanted to be sure about these counting as CAS. BTW I started IB on 2011
