Hey there, first off, we are almost done analyzing the Tale of Two Cities right now in our English A Literature Class and so far it is going awesome. But the thing that I am scared of is about the IOC for this one since it is a really complex book. I am really scared about it. Can you suggest a great site where I can find helpful stuff about this book?

In the sleep-walking scene ( ACT 5 SCENE 1) what do you think Lady Macbeth is writing in the letter, and to whom? I realise that her guilty conscious plagued her during these hours where she would confess to almost all the murders. But I'm curious as to who she is " writing" the letter to, and what would the content would be.

I'm a quarter way through the book and i'm finding it interesting so far. I do agree with most of the reviews though that it's alarmingly different to the magical imagination Rowling put into Harry Potter. This one is just so... British Townsfolk drama. Sort of below her if anything! It is still well written I think, and it is a page turner so far. Has anyone else read it yet? No spoilers please!

I have my creative oral coming up for English literature and I'm really stuck for ideas. I think I've decided on doing Sir Gawain and the green knight, the epic poem, but I can't decide on a format. Our teacher wants it to be creative and analytical, and the best ones last term were the ones where a second person was recruited and they performed a script of a conversation or scenario. Does anyone have any ideas for a format that would be interesting and allow a lot of exploration of characterisation, themes, etc? Please help!

So we just had our exams for Year 1 IB, and she gave us a choice of passage or poem (I chouse the passage) I just checked my scores online and I got a 3! Thing is, I actually thought I did well in that passage but apparently not. I really don't know how to study for english lit at all. It's been almost a year and I don't even know how to write a commentary. Our teacher has never even told us how to and she gave us an example once and it wasn't even an IB commentary. She said that I have good ideas but I have no idea how to structure my essay. Can you guys please really help me on how I should structure my essay? Like intro, para1,2,3,4, and conc? I feel as if I don't unde…

Hello guys, i've read the book Lord of The Flies recently and would like to see how you guys view this book! It could be anything (eg: Motifs, Themes, Characters, Feelings, Emotions, etc, etc)! I actually do enjoy the book a lot not only for its simplicity but William Golding's ability to convey deep implications of darkness in one's heart using just such simplistic words. This things i love about the book: -Language: Simple, yet profound and seeped with plenty of implications. -Theme: Savagery, Anarchy, Dystopia - Characters: Many say that Ralph and Jack are the more important characters but in my personal opinion i feel that Piggy and Simon play the biggest parts in the…

Ok I'm a complete newbie to everything. I just transferred to an international school which has an IB curriculum. I only have a three weeks left. Some courses are giving holiday assignments such as English Language and Literature. They're giving few topics to choose from and instructing us to make it into an IA. Ok, what is an IA? It should be Internal Assessment. But what is it exactly? I honestly haven't encountered terms like this before so can someone kindly explain? The teacher hasn't replied to my email yet... and I didn't get to go to the orientation either.

Hello there! I am currently finishing up 10th grade, so I wil be in IB next year. This may be a kind of stupid question but I was just wondering about what books I should read over the summer. I will have a lot of free time so I'm planning on reading a lot to get ahead, I guess you could say, so I won't have to worry about that as much during the school year. I have already bought Catcher in the Rye, Farienhiet 451, The Great Gatsby, and a few others. Thanks in advance for your advice!!

Topic question: What idea does F. Scott Fitzgerald suggest about the pursuit of ideals? My thesis:Through the ideals of Gatsby, Myrtle and Daisy, F. Scott Fitzgerald suggests that pursuing ideals of recapturing the past, achieving wealth through others, and wanting to be loved by having an affair are futile aspirations. Is it good? Bad? Confusing?

Well, my Eng b teacher has decided to do 1984 , its all good, but in the entire year she only made us do the chapter reviews and in class we just chat about the book and its implications. Pretty easy stuff, she doesn't even make us do any essays on the book, such as the themes etc. It isn't much of a challenge at all, so i was wondering if anyone could give me some good questions on 1984 that I could write an essay on for a bit of practice for my finals next month.

The Hunger Games have become very popular since the film came out. I don't consider myself a fan but I enjoyed the books (I didn't like Mockingjay very much though..). Before watching the movie my friends and I discussed whether the books can be considered as literature. My first response was no. It is a YA novel, and most novels of that genre can't be considered as literature. *cough cough* Twilight (btw I hate it when people compare The Hunger Games with Twilight just because of the love triangle). We reached to the conclusion that The Hunger Games describesa a dystopian society and it portrays significant themes (like the control of the government, or the power of mass…

So in our English class we are doing our practice iop and the book is The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. Our teacher said to pick one topic from the book and research that. But I don't really understand how the format of it should be. She said that the Green Berets would be a good topic. So would I research that as an intro and then analyze how its presented in the book ? Also am I supposed to have a question or can I just say that the topic is Green berets? Also how do you get a good grade on the IOP's? Thanks

I have to read several books this summer for English A: Literature, and I can't decide whether I should by normal paperback versions or digital versions to read in iBooks on my iPad. I like reading on my iPad: it doesn't hurt my eyes as some might think, I can make bookmarks, highlight and underline text (using different colors), add notes, and then easily access all my bookmarks, highlights, and notes from one place. Moreover, I can search through the book and look up words in the built-in dictionary. The two are very useful to me because the search tool allows me to quickly find a passage and the dictionary lets me better understand the text (whenever I read a physical …

I have to develop my Extended Essay Topic and one of the things I wanted to study was the role of the Church in Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials. I actually wanted to focus on the entire censorship issue with the novels and how it affected the film adaptation, but I don't think with my topic I would be able to. Would I be able to write about those issues in relation to my topic?

I'll be working on my IOPs soon and we have the choice of Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice and The Road. Currently my idea is to do Wuthering Heights about why Hindley became so twisted and how he could have improved his attitudes, but in the end why Emily Brontë did what she did. Do you think that this is OK? I would love to see any suggestions.

So I was ranting about Shakespeare the other day, and I realized that while I'm not a big fan of his plays, it's mainly because I can't understand them. But even so, I just don't see how he's the greatest there ever was and think we should be exposed to more playwrights. The sonnets I've read by him are just easier to discuss and to enjoy. What do you think of old Willie? Like him? Hate him? Want to build another monument in his honor for CAS?

Just started a book (physical book, in one volume, in English) that is 2192 pages long, tiny text, huge pages (Concise Anthology of American Literature 2nd Edition if you're wondering... and yes, it is called concise, and no, it doesn't make sense!) - but the longest I've ever managed so far is some Robert Jordan book, probably 1000+. What are your greatest achievements? What is the longest book you have browsed?

Hulllllllooooo I am a fan of Haruki Murakami, I don't know how many of you out there have a weird obsession like I do (but you already click the topic mean you pretty much like him too, are you not?) I just finish reading Sputnik Sweetheart and I find that love that book very much. As usual, after I read any book I like, I have this desperate feeling that I need to talk to someone about the book or go online to read the discussion. But as I've mentioned, this book is not popular enough and I don't feel so satisfy at the discussions I came across. This…

If any of you guys have studied, or read the poem can you please give feedback on your interpretation of the poem. Hence, the techniques utilised by the poet? The poem goes like this... Executive by John Betjeman I am a young executive. No cuffs than mine are cleaner; I have a Slimline brief-case and I use the firm's Cortina. In every roadside hostelry from here to Burgess Hill The maоtres d'hфtel all know me well, and let me sign the bill. You ask me what it is I do.
