What are your group 4 project topics and sub-topics on which different groups are doing? Is it also possible to post any Group 4 report samples in chemistry and biology?.

Okay, so we have our G4 project coming up and the planning is due next week. We were told today that the theme is going to be the , drumroll please... 'beach'. That's just so vague. When I thought of beach, I kinda thought about pollution, because Singapore's beaches aren't exactly clean now. What do you guys reckon as some suitable subtopic? And btw, is it the same topic for all the guys in the M08 'xams or is it a school free choice?

I am in a smaller IB school and my HL Biology teacher is not very well informed or helpful. What I have been told is that the Group 4 project must be individual and must have to do with biology. I am not sure, especially after looking at the posts here, how accurate this is. Please help me understand the group 4 project, as I do not know what I am supposed to do. I am also looking for topic ideas having to do with physiology or virology if anyone has any ideas, but my primary concern is understanding the group 4 project in general. My teacher gave us the assignment yesterday, due in two weeks. Please help me.

I was wondering why there isn't much information about the Group 4 Project? My G4 is coming up soon, and I have to start it. I know the IBO (or you at least you guys) must have some kind of advice/rubric for doing this project? I wanted to know what the report aspect of the G4 is... like how many words, format of the paper, etc. Thanks!

Our teachers want us to write a report on our group 4 project, yet they didn't bother explaining how it should be written and, since we can't ask them during the vacations, our group is quite lost. What exactly should we do? Is it similar to a science lab report, in which we report the method we used, report the data we collected, etc? Our should some "fluff" be added, like the ethical and social implications of our work? Do we need to research anything that could apply to our project? I know this may sound silly, but our teachers just sent us an email in the middle of the vacations basically saying "oh, write the group four report" without giving any help or explanation.…

Hi, i'm in the second year of Biology SL and as you probably all know Group 4 project is coming up, in fact it starts this month.(well it's just a sightseeing and deciding a topic) So far, all I know about the project is my assigned partners from other sciences.(chem,bio...) Other than that, i'm totally stuck that I just feel like i want to go and punch a random hobo in the face... Well, since i neither have a bloody clue on how to approach the project nor decide what the topic is i feel like my life is going to be ruined. Basically my whole point is if any one of you lads who has already finished the project, felt the same way as i am at the begging. I know it's too e…

I'm interested in hearing your crazy stories about the Group 4 Project. Did you have a group member who bailed? Uncooperative team? What you did? Anything goes really. My Group 4 experience was pretty stressful for me. I'm in HL Bio and the rest of my group consisted of 2 SL Bio kids and one Chem kid (so not much variety and NO PHYSICS because we were the last group formed). So I was essentially forced to do the physics part of it since no one else had a decent confidence in it. The chem kid is a huge creep and did hardly any work and turned it his part on the last possible day -__- We couldn't of a good topic so we did the aerodynamic comparison of birds and bats which w…

Hello! So here's the situation. I've done the group 4 project, but collaboration with my group turned out to be more difficult then I expected. A first deadline was supposed to be a presentation of the work we've done so far, but basically everyone was ready by then and everyone presented the final project. Teachers approved it. Then it turned out that the "condition" to "pass" it was to present it in front of school what my group refused to do (there wasn't really an option for me to go alone ). I just got an info, that we didn't "pass" it. What does that mean? Can you fail a G4P? What are the consequences? Anyone help please. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am about to do my Group 4 project. My group's topic is honey and I will be doing the biology part. Unfortunately I am quite stuck in the planning part. I presented my idea to my teacher but was rejected because using e.coli is too dangerous and with us not having the skill set needed. I have read abstract and ideas of some research papers but am still stuck. At this moment I am thinking of two ideas, 1. Compare the sugar content of cheap and expensive brands of honey using fermentation. 2. Study the effect of prolonged heating on honey's ability to inhibit baker's yeast growth ( I am not so sure about this one as I heard that baker's yeast are used with honey i…

Hello, I am a new student to the IB programme. I took my IGCSE exams in May, and my results are as follows: Maths (Extended): A* Coordinated Science: AA Business Studies: A* History: A English First Language (Extended): C French First Language: A I am not that good in languages and I don't like studying them either. In terms of maths and science, I love maths and physics, but I hate biology, and I think that is the reason why I only got AA in Science. I started studying Business 2 years ago, and I love the course too. Right now, I am considering to go to a Business School later, and I want to get as many IB points as p…

Hey everyone, my school is new to the IB diploma and very unorganized! My coordinator apparently does not answer the questions we ask him, he just tells us that he will take care of everything, but nothing is happening. I am doing my IB this May. Now we have done the Biology Group 4 Project. Now our Computer Science teacher told us that we have to do a Group 4 Project in Computer Science as well. Some people tell us now that we have to do only one Group 4 Project, some say that we have to do one in both subjects. Apparently I did not find anything about this in the guides or anywhere on the internet. Thanks for any help, Chris

Hi everyone i'm editing this topic, because recently i asked for some ideas relating group 4 project from an environmentalist point of view. However, i'm no longer surprised that there was no feedback, as i have found out that there is not a single word about GROUP 4 project in the ESS Syllabus and i couldn't even find any connection whatsoever between the two when i googled it. Anyway, they made us do the group 4 project, they've put us in a group of six people. Me and my friend were 2 students of ESS in the group and the others were doing the other sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry). Our topic was cider, so whilst others were doing some experiment, me and my friend …

All of the Group 4 posts I've seen on here are way different than what my school did. Last year students were divided into groups of ten and had to figure out survive a zombie apocalypse (or so I heard). For my project we were split into similar groups and assigned different doomsday scenarios: after the Earth is rendered uninhabitable figure out how to get 80-100 people to survive in the ocean, deep space or on Mars. My group got Mars. It seems to me like everyone on this website is just doing science experiments.

My group is doing a group 4 project where our aim is to compare two different places in the city and see the effects of wind on people and the surrounding environment. We are comparing locations where there are lots of cafes with an area that is extremely windy. We figured that cafes with outdoor sitting areas are less windy to not affect the customers. We have got design and physics sorted but a bit stuck on the other two. Would anyone have any suggestions for chemistry and biology?

Hi guys, So for our group 4 topic, my group decided on Erasers. Now I am completely clueless on what to focus on for the Bio aspect. I'm hoping to get some ideas (not answers) as this is my first time doing this and it seems fun! Mucho thanks to anyone who helps and those who didn't help. Thank you =)

Hi guys, My question is - say there are some people in IB at your school who do absolutely no work, aren't motivated at all, and all that. If you get put in a group with people like that, would their inability and the fact that they do nothing have an impact on your mark? So would my mark get dragged down if I get stuck in a group with people who do nothing? is essentially my question. Also, if that were to happen and it forced me to do all the work, would the fact that I did heaps of work to not compromise my grade give them a good mark as well? Thanks.

Our topic is Antibiotic Resistant Diseases . It seems interesting but I just have no idea how to narrow it down...kind of frustrated we got this topic because a lot of other groups got topics like Deforestation, Water Supply...really easy stuff! Can someone help? Thanks.

Hi people, So I have a group 4 project whose theme is Kitchen Science. My group consists of chemists and biologists. My idea was to measure the fat, protein, carbohydrate and fiber content of several foods from our school canteen. Yet while researching, there is no way to measure the contents of fat, protein, carbohydrate and fiber using the technology of our school (it requires a bomb calorimeter and other high-end equipment not normally found in high schools). So what other ideas you guys suggest me to do (topic is Kitchen Science)? Or do you know an alternative way to measure protein, fat, carbohydrate and fiber in foods? P.S. It must be achievable in 16 hours ti…

Hello, I have just finished my G4 presentation and my journal/reflection is due tomorrow. In the Action section, it says present processed data. But I was wondering if it's ok that a lab was NOT carried out, but pure research was carried out instead. The reason for this being that it was difficult to find materials to do a lab in physics. -Thanks

Hey, I'm a Biology SL student and I need to do my Groupg 4 project. I have absolutely no idea on how to do it, as our biology teacher is not very helpful. Our main topic is environment and our group's subtopic is water pollution. We have to investigate a stream that flows through the city. It is definitely polluted. It's area is <100m2 and it is a very weak stream. Could you help me to come up with a topic, as I'm not bio-savvy and have no idea how to come-up with the topic? I would EXTREMELY appreciate your help

Well, to get things started, our teacher suggested this idea to us : "Do your project on baseball. For example, in Colorado's Rookies stadium, more home runs are hit there than any other stadium in the United States. This has been proven. Can you hypothesize as to why this is the case? This would involve Biology and Physics." Guidelines for our project state that we do not have to perform an actual experiment. For all our teacher cares, we can collect a variety of data, analyze it and then present our findings and interpretations of it. He also said that this project can realistically be done within one weekend. "If a group spends the majority of Saturday and Sunday dedic…

My group 4 project is on 14-15 April. Teachers introduced us to the G4 project last month, I’ve been away from school for one month and my group hasn’t done much for this G4 project. I just read my school weekly newspaper and the front page reminded me of this G4 project!! It says: Students will not have normal lessons during those 2 days, but instead will plan and perform individual experiments with results being presented on the second day. I still do not really get what this G4 project is all about. What do we do? Do we have to conduct experiments? How many ones? Do we have to conduct one physics experiment, one chemistry experiment and one biology experiment?? Then w…
