My subjects are: HL Math HL Economics HL English SL English A Lang/Lit SL Indonesian B SL Chemistry I've heard that common subjects for Law school are HL History and English, but my interest only peaked after it was too late to change my courses. However, I am next year's captain of the varsity MUN team and part of the Debate team, but I'm not sure how far those will help me in getting into a Law program. My IB predicted based on my first midterms is 41/42 and an A in TOK (6 in SL Chemistry), and my dream school is Oxford, but I'm also looking at LSE and Warwick as target schools with Manchester and Bristol as backups. Would it be advisable/possible for me to do law, …

Hello guys, I am planning to apply to Edinburgh in the future, I couldn't find the exact entry requirements for IB in the website so I want to ask you guys if you had any offers in the past. I am planning to apply for either Ecology and Environmental or Biological Sciences. I think I will get a predicted around 38 I guess? did you guys have any offers?

So I'm very pessimistic about how well I'll do in the exams even though they just started for me. I already know that I'll fail a few. It's not an excuse but due to our IB school's mismanagement, students like me who were taking Art HL had deadlines which were about less than a week ago, so I didn't have much time to cram in Physics and History and those are heavily packed subjects. I want to already consider retaking a few of my exams in November so that I can get the grades I need for my first choice uni. Since I applied for a deferred entry, can they still hold my place whilst I retake? Or do I need to apply again after I retake?

I've heard that we are allowed to apply to 5~6 universities through UCAS, but I also heard from someone that we are only allowed to write one single application essay. Is this true? Than if this is true, doesn't this mean that one student can only apply to one single major course of 5~6 different universities? For example, if I wrote an application essay to a university in Pharmacy, am I not allowed to write another application essay to another university of chemical engineering? Thanks

Hey guys, I would like to ask if any of you applied to Cardiff for medicine. Are you aware that academic entry requirements for IB students is 776 (equivalent of A*A*A) and 38 (without ToK). This will also be the conditional offer. However for A-level students, the entry requirement is AAA. Cardiff Medical school seems to be the only UK university that equates an A-level "A" to be equivalent to an IB score of "7". All other universities equate an A to be equal to a 6. Based on this, it seems clear that Cardiff is disadvantaging IB students. Let me know if you are aware of this.

Hi guys! So, I've been running around like a headless chicken for the past month-or-so because when discussing our future education with a friend, we realised that if the UK leaves EU, they'll have little reason to still give us (EU students) the loan for tuition fees, and 15k is less than many of the people in my country make in a year, so we'd never be able to attend without the loan. My friend's holding an offer from a #1 school, she'll be fine, she'll get the money from somewhere. I, on the other hand, am not exceptional academically, and nobody would fund my sorry butt. And I don't have a backup (i.e. outside the UK). Should I? I know there's many saying t…

I'm in IB1 taking the usual 3 HL's and 3 SL's, but some of my friends are currently planning to enroll in AP courses alongside to boost their resumes for applying to the US. Since I'm applying to the UK, likely for economics or law, is it recommendable to follow suit? If I take an AP, it would be either Psychology, Macro/Micro, or Computer Science, whereas the GOA (global online academy) would be for criminal law.

Ok, I am a student studying the IB diploma. I am planning to apply for Oxford as a Biology major. However, my subjects seem to be quite a problem. I have seven subjects <HL> Mathematics Physics Philosophy English B <SL> Biology World Literature (Korean self taught) <Seventh> Italian AB Inizio (This is not an IB subject since it is a seventh but all students in our college have to take it) So actually, I only have to care about the six subjects except Italian, It is strange that I didn't take Bio as higher right? This is the problem... Our school doesn't offer Physics and Philosophy in a standard block, and we can take 4 maximum subjects in the …

I'm choosing between applying for Econ/PPE/Law, and so far I have 3 colleges that I'm quite sure are definite: Oxford (reach)* LSE (semi-reach) Warwick (normal) *reach = Applying there is still quite unlikely even if I meet requirements, normal = I think I have a solid chance I've been told its good to have 1-2 reach school, 2-3 normal-reach and 1-2 safety/back ups, and so far I've thought of the following: Durham (normal but semi-reach for law) UCL (normal) Bristol (safety) Manchester (safety) Bath (safety) Edinburgh (semi-reach) But due to the limit of 5 I can only pick two of these. Any advice? I'm sitting at around 43-44 on current grades and midterms, but w…

So I am trying to decide which university I should choose as my insurance. I was thinking of firming Imperial (I am 99% I will) and insuring UCL. Imperial asks for 43 with 777 and UCL for 39 with 19 total at HL. I am hesitant about insuring UCL because I am scared of what might happen if everything goes completely wrong with finals. I don't think it's likely that I will write less than 37 in the finals (which with +2 would be a 39) or less than a 766 but if I get sick or something just goes completely wrong I am afraid I might miss it. My other options would be Southampton with a 37 and Bath with a 36 but wouldn't it be sort of unfair if I ended up going to them with a 42…

Hello all, Currently I have applied to universities in several European countries, and have received offers from several UK universities. My issue is that, as I am applying to other countries as well (Ex. Switzerland), I will only receive a decision based on my application in July. Since I need to confirm my UK choices by May, I am interested if I may drop out of the university position at a later time (ex. July), if I decide to attend university in another country. It would be great to get some people who have knowledge and/or have experienced this situation Thanks

So yeah, I live way out in the Caribbean, and won't have a chance to visit any of the universities I've applied to before I make my decision, hence I'm coming to you guys. My two most preferred choices are The University of Nottingham and The University of Edinburgh, so if you attended one of those, I'd really appreciate your thoughts on that Uni. I'm going to study Electrical Engineering, but even if you did something totally different, still give me the lowdown on your experience. Even if you didn't go to either of these Uni's, give me your opinions on them, let me know what you think, and what my best option would be for what I'm studying. Again, I live way out in…

I have a quick question when you apply to schools abroad (UK) do you have to submit your IB marks? Or can you submit your converted marks? I'm asking because I really want to study in the UK for medicine specifically I want to study at Imperial. For IB they require 38 points, which I know I can achieve if I work hard, but it is also a requirement to take chem and bio at HL, which as much as I begged my school they just wouldn't let me take. However, for Canadian students they require scores of 85%-90% both overall and in relevant Grade 12 subjects at the academic level. My IB courses are relevant its just I can't take both science at HL. Plus, sl bio covers what the regul…

Hey guys, I have taken my LNAT exam approximately two weeks ago. To do so I went trough the application process and have signed up to take the exam in a test facility in Switzerland. I know that the LNAT will be making my results available to me within early February according to their website. Also my universities are supposed to receive my results within 24h after the completion of the exams. Now I am wondering how the LNAT or Pearson respectively know which universities need my LNAT scores ? Will my universities be able to find my scores using my Name ? Hello, In the summer I convinced my parents to let me apply to the UK for Medicine, however, they only agreed if I applied to universities in London, which I did, however, My predicted grade was 38 which was under the required mark for UCL and just on it for Imperial, Kings, and Queen Mary's, so I've already received rejections from two of them and am waiting for the third. However, during these past few months my parents have in fact changed their minds and are letting me apply other places as well, sadly, it's a bit too late for that now, so I have to wait until clearing. I looked up information about clearing, but, ironically, nothing is very clear... All I've gather…

So I sent my UCAS application like right before the January deadline, and a couple of universities have already given me conditional offers. The remaining universities, however, still haven't replied. In normal circumstances, I would not panic and sit tight and be patient. The thing is, some of my friends have already gotten offers from the same universities that haven't replied to me...so why aren't they replying to me? Different course? Or did they already flat out reject me ?

Hi People, I am in half of my Year 1 and well, I want to get ready for the PS and all the other stuff regarding application. I want to apply for Biological Sciences at Oxford (and of course other unis but that's for other time). My problem is that I am afraid, whether I have enough things to put in my PS and I am also concerned about their quality. So maybe a short-list: - taking part in international neurobiological competition (but yet no achievement as the big part stars in April) - took part (and will again) in palaeontological excavation with the team of my national Academy of Sciences. - ecological studies of birds in my region (that may result in published …

Hello! I'd like to share a plight with you. I was originally supposed to be go to Math HL, but, after I applied, it turned out our school cancelled the course due to lack of participating students. Now I had no choice in the matter, and certainly did not wish to transfer to Biology. I've been sending emails to some colleges in the U.K about the requirements for Math HL for entering Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or, to a lesser extent at least, Physics and Astronomy, and so far the replies, although small, have been devastating. Apparently, Maths HL is a requirement for many colleges. I still have some colleges who have yet to reply, but I'm losing hope quickl…

Hello there, I have finished my o/levels in Cambridge and is doing IB, but its only been a few months since I started IB. Our school is having a lot of university visits and this had made me think more deeply on what I want to do. I love biology specially, and something had come up that says that they give scholarships for those students who had completed IGCSE to do biomedical engineering in UK. I'm not really a math and physics person even though I love chemistry and biology. Do you think biomedical engineering is the right way to go? what are your opinions if you were in my shoes? thank you.

Hi guys, I'm currently taking maths, compsci and physics HL. I think it'll be a challenge to get a 7 in physics HL, and I'm considering dropping it for economics HL. Do you think that taking physics HL would make my uni application stronger? Will knowing physics help me at all? My thinking is that it's easier to get a 7 in physics SL, but maybe that's wrong? Thanks!

I'm not completely sure on how to fill out the education section on the UCAS application. I attend an American high school, which goes from grades 9-12. But for 11th grade, I started the IB Diploma Programme. I'm currently in my second year of IB (grade 12). Do I need to fill out all my high school grades or do I mention only IB And If I need to fill out all my american grades(9-10th grade), which qualification is that?? Thanks.

Well, we all know oxbridge is renowned for its academic rigorousness, and getting in is the dream of many. However, the question I wanna pose is, is it worth it to get into oxbridge ? I actually want to get into Cambridge, but I realize it is gonna be a lofty sum. I mean, do people earn more after graduating from Cambridge when comparing to other unis ? Is there anything special about the uni apart from its reputation ? Is it worth it to invest a total 90000 pounds just to get a degree from cambridge, considering I can pay 0 euro and study in german unis ?

Hi, I'm currently in year 11. The subjects I'm positive I would take in HL are English Lang&Lit and Economics. I plan to major in English in the UK (England, to be exact) and I'm not sure whether it would be best to take Business & Management or Indonesian Language & Literature A2 as the third HL. I heard that Business & Management is considered as a soft subject in the UK. I don't want to ruin my chances to a very impressive university. Would it look better on my application if I take another A language or business & management as HL? Thank you!

So my firm choice's offer's conditions were 36 6/6/6. I ended up getting 40 7/6/5, being 1 point short of a 6 in Maths (after remarking), and got rejected even after trying to negotiate, presumably because I want to study CS and Maths is pretty important for that. My insurance choice's conditions are 32 5/5/5. I was wondering whether I'd be eligible for UCAS adjustment, and, if so, is there any realistic possibility of getting into a better Uni? I'd love it if somebody could share their experience with this.

My mock exam results just came out and I got like 41-42 for my predicted grade. So, I saw the minimum requirement for applying to oxford is merely 39 points so I might want to give it a try. However, I realize that applying for oxford might be rather troublesome as it involves so many admission tests and UCAS and interviews, while I will be studying so hard for both IB and my German test for uni admission in Germany. Overall, I dont know if it worth a go to apply for oxford with my grade as I don't think my grade is extremely impressive, and I can not afford to invest more extra time on something that rarely work out. So do you have any similar experience when it…

Ok, so coming from a country where we eat maple syrup for every meal and ride our moose (or is it meese..?) to school, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for which UK unis to go to? I know that Cambridge and Oxford are basically like the Harvard and Stanfords (or any of the Ivy League Schools) of U.S., so the competition is high. I've just been wondering how it works when you apply to universities and you have no official grades to submit. Since I take IB, my official scores do not come out until July 2016, but I have to complete and submit my medical application to UCAS by October 2015, how will the universities know anything about my achievement so far? I understand that our teachers will make predictions, but how are those transferred to UCAS? Thanks for the information!

Hey there, just something relating to uni (UK) & the personal statement. I am not sure how aware everyone else out there is with the LSE Public Lectures, but they have a lot of interesting lectures/topics (with well-known speakers) and obviously the LSE also is an outstanding uni. So essentially I spoke to someone from the LSE who told me that they (and others) referenced a LSE public lecture they attended in their personal statement to show that they have engaged with the subject/course they applied to. The LSE also uploads most (if not all) of these public lectures to the internet for everyone to listen to. So my question is do you think it is ok to reference a lect…

Okay so I've been really passionate about zoology since quite a young age, and Saint Andrews is my ideal university choice (Not because of the Royals meeting there). I haven't gotten my predicted grades yet but the subjects I take are: Chemistry HL, Biology HL, French A HL, English A SL, Math SL, and Psychology SL. I'm pretty confident I'll get a 35+ but I don't want to jinx myself. I'm doing my EE in biology and more specifically botany, and for CAS I've taken part in a project that raises funds for a local organisation against animal cruelty.
