I was wondering if anyone had done an extended essay in world studies, combining economics and politics. If yes, how was it? and what was your research question? I take economics HL and really enjoy it, and although politics isn't offered at my school, I do have a strong interest in it. Thank you!!!

Hi everyone, I need help from all of you. I am in year 2 right now, I changed my school, I moved to a new school last year and started the IB in July. I haven't done my best in the units and all, and our end of year exams were cancelled due to COIVID-19. My anticipated grade is a 31/42 I understand that my teachers barely know me and can't predict too high anyway. These are my grades MAA SL: 5 Physics HL: 5 Chem HL: 5 Economics HL: 5 English A Lit SL : 6 French B SL: 5 My grades are extremely underwhelming, and I know I can do better, I have always been a good and motivated student, and got 95+ in all my subjects…

I've been using this forum for a while now and have been trying to help out. A lot many questions are on whether the particular IA/IB topics are relevant. However, many seem to discount good English and effective communication out of the picture. Even if one chooses a not so good essay, how it can be crisply conveyed matters the most. Those having their exams in 2022 or later have enough time in their hands to work on their language. It is best to drill the basics and learn them hard. Work on them for 15-30 mins every day. Start writing short sentences in active voice and then full-fledged essays. This process would help better prepare for exams. However, for those having…

Hi fellow survivors. I am starting the diploma program this year, and I am not sure how to get organized. During the pandemic I go to school every other day, so some content is provided online, but we still get a lot of handouts. I also prefer to take notes on paper, as I feel I retain information better that way. Any thoughts on how I can stay organized?

So basically i have the choice in choosing: 1) English B HL Spanish B HL Business HL Maths Analysis SL French A SL ESS or 2) Spanish B HL Business HL Biology HL English A SL French A SL Maths Analysis SL I really am confused in my choices as I want to take three languages where in English and French i'm fluent and in Spanish is where i'm still learning the language. But i think I am good enough to do English A Sl and English B HL. The real question is that i don't know what universities prefer. I also don't know if it would be a lot choosing 2 languages in HL and a French A SL. And i think doing Englis…

Hello. I am currently about to complete my first year of my IB Diploma. However I have recently found out of the IB Certificate program which consist of taking whatever subjects you want at whatever level you want. All of the other mandatory components of the full IB Diploma are now compulsory, such as the Extended Essay and CAS. Also, unlike the full diploma I would be awarded a certificate for each subject I choose to take, and if I were to fail in aa subject, CAS, TOK, or extended essay this would not impact me obtaining my grades for my other subjects. Whereas in the full IB Diploma failing a component such as CAS would result in the failure of the whole Diploma…

Hey all, I've been having a lot of trouble writing the 45 minute essays that are assigned in HL History (year 1). Does anyone have any tips or strategies, or possibly well written exemplars, that I could use to improve my style of writing? I think I end up giving too much narrative and not giving as strong of an argument as I should be, but any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello. I was wondering wether I should take AI SL or AA SL. I enjoy calculus and algebra more than statistics but I am not that comfortable with non calc. However I am worried that medical unis might not prefer AI SL? Would it be better to take AI SL and get a 7 or AA sl and get a 5/6? Thanks in advance

Hello, I'm starting the diploma program in September and I plan to major in Psychology. I'm taking Math A&I SL because math isn't my strong suit, and taking 4 HLs is too difficult for me. Does this really significantly lower my chance at getting accepted into universities? Is it really a 'soft subject'?

Hello, I'm starting the IB diploma program in September and I want to major in Psychology. My school doesn't offer IB psychology anymore, so I'm signing up for the Psychology HL online course offered by Pamoja. Has anyone here tried doing online IB courses before? How was it and how were your results in the end?

Hey Everyone, I'm a senior at a public high school in California. Our IB program is very small, and it just started offering an HL Comp sci. The thing is, most of the students in the class aren't even IB students, and the teacher is clueless. She stated that she is basically going to ignore the IB curriculum. As such, I assume I will get no guidance on my IA and also have to teach myself all of the class material. Do you guys think it's doable? What are some good sites/resources that I can use to help me? Thank you so much! Regards from the US, Jonathan

hey guys! i haven't been the most active on this site, but throughout high school it was a HUGE help surviving IB. i got so much invaluable info here and wanted to express my gratitude to this site and everyone on it for making this community so amazing. if you're curious, i ended up with a 38/45 overall: 7 - HL english, SL spanish; 6 - SL math, HL bio; 5 - SL history; 4 - SL art; A - EE, B - TOK even though the end of this year was so much different than I anticipated (than ANY of us did, probably), i'm proud to have made it through and want to say congratulations to all the other class of 2020 grads and for the class of 2021, i know your last year might be in…

So basically, I have two paths that I want to go down and it just depends what and how I do in school. So I have chosen my subjects and then change them even untill the start of next year if needed. So bascially, I choose computer science because I want to have this pathway avaliable as this is most likely what I choose but I might change my mind later on. I chose bio cause I want to maybe do something biology or maybe med related. But I heard on from other Ib students on this site that chemistry is also required but if I do choose bio or med, then I would need to replace chemistry with computer science. This is due to the fact that I have to do a humanites subject which …

This is the first time I have ever used IB Survival but here we go. So I am wanting to do my EE about the two novels of Crime and Punishment by Fydor D. and Matilda by Roald D. where I want to focus my topic on the villains of their stories and how they basically help the protagonists more than hurt them. The villains being Ms. Trunchbull and Luzhin. When I think about someone who helps another person I think of a 'mentor'. So here is my idea: "To what extent do the villains in the works Fydor Dostoyevsky and Roald Dahl fulfil the mentor archetype?" Please let me know if this is too broad or too narrow.....thank you

Okay, so I want to study medicine in the future. Problem is, my school only offers Phy/Bio at both levels but no chemistry. And I'm also required to do English b HL. So my final choice for HLs would've been: English b, Biology and AA. SL: French a, Physics and History. At this point I'm not even sure if it's worth doing the IB at all.

Hey everyone! It's great to be part of a community with fellow IB experts! I'm relatively new to this platform so feel free to suggest any feedback or any tips to consider while contributing. I'm currently in year 12 (second year of IB). One of the subjects I have taken is Economics HL. The one thing I've noticed was how time consuming I along with a few friends of mine who took the same subject found in writing down definitions for every key term while answering paper 1 questions and considering the current situation of coronavirus, the importance of this in IAs. So, I've created a super useful resource (flashcards with short, concise definitions) that contain…

Guys, I'm looking for a company or firm I can analyse for my Business Management SL IA. Is it better to look for firms that face a certain issue and then analyse it or should I look for a firm based on a certain method of analysis. To me, writing a research question looks like a never ending process. It would be great if you share scored exemplars and resources for the same. Thank you

Hi, I am a grade 10 student in Hong Kong currently studying the effectiveness of online learning during the COVID-19 lockdown period, which I hope to publish as research later this year at AGU. The survey below is for students to express their opinions and attitudes towards the current online learning systems, and to suggest improvements that could help inform future online learning. It should take less than 15 minutes to complete, and your time would be much appreciated. The responses will be anonymized and kept confidential, and if you feel uncomfortable about any of the questions, feel free to skip them. There is extra space at the end of the survey if you wi…

Hi, I received my May 2020 grades and it is just disappointing. I received 33 points (Maths HL 4, English HL 6, Physics HL 6, French SL 5, History SL 6, Chemistry SL 4). Now, originally I was planning to take a gap year and do the November exams. However, I need help deciding what subjects I should retake. The courses I would like to do are the Informatics course at Edinburgh (34-37 - 666/655) and Imperial EIE (38 - 666). I received my IA grades and I got 5s in Chem and Maths, 7 in Physics, and 6s in English/History. So far, I am determined to sit the November exams in maths, chem, physics and french as I believe I could get up to 8 more points, totalling my po…

IB is giving students who got their marks in May 2020 an opportunity to write the exams in November 2020 and this will not be counted as one of their 3 retakes. But does this mean they will still count the higher mark of the two sessions (May and November), or does only the November one count. This is not a typical retake, where the higher grade is the one that counts. And this is not a typical deferred exam either as we already got our grades in May. I called the IB support line and the person who answered seemed to think the higher one will count but on further discussion with her, she seemed not so sure anymore, and told me to talk to the school coordinator instead a…
