Hi, I'm currently a junior and I have 2 HL's and 4 SL's. Next year, I'll probably have 3 HL's and 3 SL's. Can I still receive the full IB diploma even though this year I only have 2 HL's instead of 3? I read that you need 3, so I'm a little concerned. Thanks.

I am considering this course: English A1 SL Math SL Biology SL History HL Economics HL Mandarin Chinese B HL + Psychology HL I will be trying to take up 4 HLs when IB starts. I should be taking Chinese A2, because I am a fluent speaker, but my school doesn't offer it. Will B HL be as hard? Will I get royally screwed by the extra HL? Should I take Psychology in SL instead?

Hi guys, I'm planning to take 4 HL subjects next year and I'm being compromised with my choices. I plan on either taking a science-based course in college as I plan on becoming a research scientist, but I'm also considering law, although I'm borderline with that idea. What I drafted for my subjects are: HL Chemistry HL Physics HL English Language and Literature HL Mathematics SL Psychology French ab initio Now I know it looks like suicide but I'm confident that I'll pass the course with flying colours, pardon my arrogance. I'm currently finishing the IGCSE course, and I'm taking the same subjects in IB, sans psychology and french (although I have self taught mysel…

So next year I'll be going into IB and my school requires HL European History and HL English. Currently, my plan for next year is: HL History HL English HL Biology (my school doesn't offer SL Bio) SL Physics Year 2 (I started SL physics this year in 10th grade; my school doesn't offer HL physics) SL Spanish SL Math So here's my problem: I really, really want to take HL math. I've always been really good at math and it's always come very easily to me. I've never gotten anything less than 100% on any of the exams in Algebra 2 and Geometry last year was basically the same thing. My elementary school didn't off any math beyond Math 7, so I started middle school in Pre-Algebra…

Hi, I'm a sophomore going into the IB DP program next year and I'm still deciding what classes I want to take. I've been thinking about taking two HL sciences because I really enjoy science and because I have the room. I'm also seriously considering becoming a doctor. The HLs I'm thinking about are: English HL (required at my school) Visual Arts HL Biology HL Chemistry HL My SLs will be French and Math. I was wondering if I would be able to handle this, and still receive high IB examination grades. I have very good grades right now, and I'm two years ahead in math (I'm not taking math HL because I don't want to). Many of my teachers say I can handle it, but I wanted feed…

Hi guys, I'm currently a sophomore (year 11) and am going to be starting the IB program next year. We have to do our course choices now so this is what I'm planning to do: English A: Literature SL Chinese A: Literature SL Spanish Ab Initio SL Math HL Chem HL Econ HL My question is..is it worth it to switch English to HL and have 4 HLs instead of 3??? A lot of upperclassmen at my school have told me not to do it, but at the same time they've also said that english hl and sl is almost the same..there are only a couple more works studied so I am really conflicted :/ I'd switch Chinese to HL, but I'm taking it a year early (anticipated student) so I can't... Hey guys, I am new to these forums and I know that a lot of these forum posts are cropping up with threads on course selections so sorry if I'm repeating something in a previous thread. Anyways, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the courses that I need and want to take next year when I enter IB1 as well as the courses I can take in IB2. Now my general idea for what courses I want to take are: HL Math -- Can be both SL and HL (I currently have a 93 in Math) Chemistry -- Can only be HL (I currently have a 93 in Science) Biology -- Can be both SL and HL (I currently have a 93 in Science) English -- Can be both SL and HL ( I currently have an 88 in English) SL History -- Can be both S…

For senior year in the IB diploma, there are 5 HL courses I have to take: HL English HL Studies in Literature HL Business Leadership HL Physics HL Science I’m assuming this is allowed because I can’t graduate with the diploma without these courses. For SL I take, SL French SL Math There is no HL Math offered at my school. However, there is an HL Math online course. I need to take HL Math for the university programs I want to apply to. So, I would have to take 6 HL courses, one SL course, and a TOK course. Do you think this would be allowed?

Hi, I'm currently a sophomore (Grade 10 or Year 11), about to head into the IB next year. I'm currently in the midst of selecting my IB courses for next year. Here's my situation: I want to take 7 IB classes. This is not normally allowed at my school, and the only way to do such a course load is to do 7 certificates (you are not allowed to take a 7th class as an elective in addition to the full diploma). 4 HLs is not allowed for full diploma candidates either. I just chose my subjects for the next two years of IB, but I'm starting to get nervous about them because of how hard everyone says IB is. (I knew it was hard when I started, yes, but I'm getting cold feet about my choices now, haha) I chose: English Lang/Lit HL Danish Literature HL Global Politics HL Visual Arts HL Spanish ab initio Biology SL Math Studies + EE, ToK, etc I have 7 subjects, 4 of which are HL, so I'm starting to get nervous about the pressure I will be putting myself under. Are you about to become an IB student or are you considering becoming one? Here is a preview of how IB can look from the inside (watch video). My IB group in Mexico made this video which shows how was IB for us from 2011 to 2013. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy7f1tEF0zw We had a great experience. We became a really united group and we helped ourselves survive the hardest moments. We had fun too.

So, I'm only just starting the Pre-IB program, so this is all new to me. I'm concerned that my biology teacher will be on maternity leave until early next year, and our "substitute" has hardly been giving us any proper instruction in the subject. We're trying to get something done, but is there any way that myself and my peers could teach ourselves the subject? Is there any need to? Actually, could you explain the requirements/exams that we have to take in Pre-IB, too? I feel unprepared and nervous. Thank you!

Do all schools go through an application process which determines a student's acceptance into their school's IB program? At my high school (United States) all potential IB applicants submit an anonymous application which goes through two rounds of review by three teachers. If the application passes, students are invited to interview and are then accepted into the program based off the success of the interview. I recently went though the application process and was rejected during the anonymous review process due to my most recent quarter and midterm grades which slumped dramatically. I have one horrendous quarter grade in my math course, and three bad midterm grades i…

Hey, I would like some advice and suggestion on what subjects I should select for DP, as the title indicates I want to specialize in the Econ/B&M area. These are my choices: Math HL, Econ HL, B&M HL/Bio HL, lang lit sl, spanish sl, bio/b&m sl. My first concern is that is B&m needed for my area and is it seen as a soft subject. Also is Math HL necessary for Econ or B&m area.

Hi, I am an 8th grader and I have been planning to go into the IB program once I am a junior. At the high school I am going to go, you are required to be in the Pre-IB/ Scholars program to register into the actual IBDP. A lot of my friends have told me not to and that I will have no social life if I do this. However, I knew someone who did the IBDP while playing basketball and working. I would like to know if it is really as burdening as people make it sound. Hi! So I really need help with choosing what HL and SL courses to take. I'm definitely taking HL English Literature, HL History, HL Spanish Language and Literature, SL Biology, and Math Studies (SL). I think I'm quite good at French, so I was thinking of taking French B HL too, but I'm afraid 4 HL courses will be too much to handle. I've been getting 6's and 7's in all of my courses, and would really like to get into my dream school (which happens to be an Ivy League school). I intend to focus on the Humanities. Before reading on... let me first say, I'm an extremely confused student at this point. First off, I've always been really interested in writing, and have always considered it as a dream career. Problem is... the chances of becoming a successful writer and basing your life off of it are extremely slim. That said, I need another field to go into as a source of stable income in the future. (especially since IB is not particularly geared towards the arts, and literature) So a few weeks ago when we had course selections, I decided that business would be a good field. Not because I'm really that interested in it, but because I'm pretty decent at Math, and at the time, I d…

Hey, I am going to start IB next year(pre-IB student) and I am sure and confident about hardworking in IB but ı have a doubt about it. In Turkey we have an important exam to enter universities. This exam is so important that some of the students even started to study for this from the first year of high school. I choose IB to earn a different and qualified mentality and improve my knowledge in science in a different language side. My purpose is to get in a Med school, sure I want to go to a prestige university in UK but it is too expensive. So here is my question: Could I study IB while I am studying to my country's exam?
