I want to get into Pre-IB and I feel lost. I know that there's an Info night, but I want to know if there are entrance exams and etc. If there are how do I not fail them, what subjects should I review and if it helps I'm going to Bayview SS, and feel that my current school sucks (I'm in grade 8. I'll ask my french teacher for vocab sheets, and eng teacher for extra help. My average last term was 82%. If you could plz give my advice on where to go from there in preparing for Pre-IB it would be greatly appreciated, like, did any of you wish that you had done anything in grade 8 that would've helped you better prepare for IB and also, could you please recommend an online g…

Hey everyone, As you can tell from the title, I'll be writing the Pre-IB entrance exam for BSS and St Roberts this fall. I got all E's and an overall average of around 92% on my 7th grade final report card, (but I'm not sure how low the acceptance rate for both schools are so I'm not sure if that's enough). Does anyone know roughly how many students get accepted into the program each year? Also, does anyone know how difficult the actual exam is? How much time do you get for each component, roughly how many pages of each component are there and around how many questions are on a page? How hard was each section, and what types of questions were on the exam? Especially …

Hi all, I am very glad to have found this forum while browsing info about IB entrance test. I am a worried mom of my son who is trying to help him prepare to write his entrance test for IBMYP program for Gr 6 at WG Davis middle sc, Brampton, Canada. I am sorry if some of you might not like a mom to have joined this forum , but I promise that after my son is accepted in the IB program, it shall be him chatting with you all. While reading over various posts, I found that you all are really working hard to achieve your goals and at the same time helping each other. Keep up the good work and all the best!! I registered as Crosby... as my son is a great fan of his and ice h…

HI FRIENDS! So I am about to start grade 11 very soon and I am considering pursuing law in university. However, I'm unsure of what IB subjects to take that are related to law since most of the universities only specify A-level subjects, not IB ones Also as a side note: I am also very interested in pursuing business management in university but my math skills are VERY VERY weak and I'm probably taking Math Studies next year (recommended by my teacher). Will that be a problem when I'm applying to good universities for business? THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS ALSO p.s. is taking two history's (American History, and Ancient Civilizations) a good idea for Grade 10? or should I sti…

Hey! I'm starting IB this fall, and I've chosen Math HL. It's hard - I'm aware - So how do you prepare? As some of you might know, Swedish math education is.. rubbish.. (sadly that's the only education I've had) Thus I hope to improve my skills before IB starts. A good first year student told me that if anything, I should try to start with and getting an understanding of calculus. He also told me about KhanAcademy as I had heard of before. So today I went in there, and I found myself confused about the two different categories; PreCalculus & Calculus. (I've never studied calculus nor do I know anything about it, so i'm sorry if this sounds dumb, but,) am I supposed to…

Hello everyone! I am writing the entrance test for the pre-ib program at Bayview SS this month! I got all E's and a 93% average on my grade 7 report card. I have a good recommendation as well. I am really worried for the exam itself. I am very good at the language arts and math, however I do not go to a French immersion school, and I feel that I do not know too many enriched words. Anyone who has taken the test....what was the French component like? What type of questions? What do I need to focus on? Can you recommend any study sources? What was the hardest part of the test for you? What should I watch out for? Any other tips? Sorry that I have so many questions but…

I currently get 6s and 7s for everything in MYP, so how do you think it would work out [would it?] for me to do 4 highers next year and 2 SL? I'm looking to attend an Ivy League college and doing these highers would keep more options available to me. My careers counsellor says I'm allowed to do 4 HL and 2 SL subjects [i dont particularly want to take a 7th] but I don't know if it would still be possible to maintain a 6s and 7s at HL if I have one more that most people. Did any of you guys take 4 highers or a 7th subejct? If so, how did you find it? I'm considering History HL, English A1 HL, Physics HL and Maths HL, then Dutch A2 SL and Economics SL - do you think that wou…

Hi everyone, I'm currently in 8th grade and I am planning on taking both the St. Robs and Bayview entrance exam into their ib programs. Can someone please explain to me how the exam is broken down, what can I expect, and what are my chances for getting in? (roughly 700 students apply to each school every year, only around 250 get accepted). For Bayview, I have an average of around 88% from my grade 7 final term, and a solid teacher recommendation. How well do I have to perform on the test in order for me to get into the program?? St.Roberts only relies on the test scores, im pretty sure. Also, is there any advice or helpful tips for studying for the tests? …

Hey everyone, I'ma 2nd year IB student as of September and I'll be applying to college very soon in Sweden. In Sweden you get extra points for taking specific subjects and there's also a section for extra points if you've done the "pre-IB". Myself I've done the MYP (two year middle years program) but is this the same thing? Thanks.

Hey guys! The MYP students just had their maths eAssessment and the difficulty was ridiculous, for both maths and maths extended. Due to this, students have created a petition to then send to the IB. I'd be great if you could sign it and share it. Thanks! https://www.change.org/p/international-baccalaureate-myp-e-examination-maths-standard-and-extended-2016

Hey guys. I'm in Grade 8 right now. I really want to go to Bayview Secondary School for the Pre IB program. I went to the gifted program and got a 87% average. I'm not sure whether that is good or not. I feel that I will get a good teacher recommendation. Anyway, I feel very confident in the math portion of the exam. I'm nervous about the English and French, mainly on the vocabulary and grammar. What should I study for? Any comment would be helpful. Thanks

Hey, I have the opportunity to start IB in autum at the Felix-Klein-Gymnasium in Göttingen, but I'm not entirely sure if it is a good idea... First of all, I'm a bit sceptical about taking the IB in general, because everybody is just freaking out about how much work it is and how much effort it requires. Secondly, I heard that the chances of getting into University aren't much better if you have completed IB. Furtermore, the Felix-Klein-Gynmasium has been an IB School only since 2006... I just wanted to kindly ask you to tell me about your opinions regarding this matter: Would you prefer the IB program over the German Abitur ( especially given the fact that I have never t…

Hi! I've been having a huge amount of trouble picking between HL Bio and HL Chem. I like Bio slightly more than Chem, but i find Chem easier than Bio, because I'm rubbish at memorising facts. I chose Bio, but I've been rethinking it several times. I'm not planning to do anything related to science in uni, instead I'm veering more towards law, geography or PPE As of the time of this posting, I've chosen: HL - Econ (Might change this to Psych), Geo, Bio SL - English Lang Lit (but this might change to Lit Performance), Mandarin B, Maths and in GCSE im doing Co-ordinated Science Economics Foreign Language Mandarin Extended Maths Geography Drama English Lit & English Lan…

I'm starting my IB course next week and I am currently contemplating on changing my subjects combination. My current subjects combo: HL: Maths, Chemistry, Physics SL: Economics, English A1, French ab initio Looks like a good combination for engineering, right? The irony is I have never been interested in engineering. I'm planning to pursue a degree in Economics...or Actuarial Science...and recently, I have been thinking about Psychology. As you can see, I am very undecided right now. That is why I am trying to choose the subjects combination that can keep my doors open in the future. It is a known fact that sciences are the safest options, thus the two Science subjects i…

Hi ! I'm starting IB next year and so far my choices are: Biology HL English Lit. HL History/Geography HL Spanish Ab Initio French B Maths Studies I'm having trouble deciding on my group 3 subject and would like some opinions on history and geography at higher level. I've heard history is heaps of work, but I mean if it's enjoyable, it pays off in the end, right? Then some people say geography is incredibly boring, but much easier than history. So I’m applying to the IB program for Dr G W Williams (YRDSB) in November and i was wondering if an 83% average for grade 7 enough? I did good on Math english and french but it was the more minor subjects that threw me off. I also go to extra curricular and i have English and Math down for my entrance exam. Here's my situation: I want to take 7 IB classes. First time posting Hi, I'm entering the fifth year of my MYP program and aiming for a computer science major at an American college. Recently I've heard that chances of acceptance are improved if people take HL math and physics for any engineerin courses. However, I'm not really all that good at math and haven't tried a hand at physics yet, but I've managed to create three java games in the short time I started learning programming and I'm enjoying the area so far. ...Which brings me to my question(s). Are the chances of college entry still acceptable even if I take SL math and/or physics? (btw, right now there isn't a computer science class available at my school) Also…

In my school, we are currently choosing which course that we will do next year for IBDP, I have always been an ambitious overachiever. However, I recently got diagnosed with a lot of psychological disorders and my psychiatrist told me to stop being ambitious and take it easy in the IB, she told me that I MUST choose the easiest course combination that I can choose. I chose IB History HL, IB Math HL, IB Chem HL, IB English Text and Performance SL A1, IB Swedish SL, IB Psychology SL But my IB-coordinator states that combination is considered to be a suicidal combination which requires a lot of hard work, essay writing etc. Even I want to work as hard as possible, I still…

Hello! I will be starting my first year of IB in a couple of weeks, and I am still stressing about my courses, whether I have chosen the right ones yadda yadda. I am not sure what exactly I want to pursue in university, but I believe that it'll wither be something within law (human rights, particularly women's rights) or medicine (pediatrics). I have enrolled in courses that (I hope) will keep my options open. I shall be taking: ~IB Engligh ~IB French ~IB Biology ~IB Chemistry ~IB Economics ~IB History ~IB Math The reason why I am taking 7 IB courses is because (in case you haven't figured it out already) I am incredibly indecisive. I am doing well in History and feel I c…

I took my IB entrance exam today (St. Robert CHS) and I don't think I did so well - I guessed an answer from the mathematics section and left one question unanswered, and I don't think I did the greatest in the language section. I also didn't have much time to check over my answers, and barely skimmed through my math answers before time was up I'm going to garner a guess and say that about 800 students applied this year, and from the previous year, there were 5 IB classes, so if there were about 30 students in each class, about 150 were accepted. St. Robert CHS will look at a small writing sample, the language and math exams, my IEP, my grade 7 final report card and my g…

Today our Coordinator gave an interesting presentation on the PP for the MYP4 students who will be starting their projects next month. I learned that there is a new version of the PP Guide this year, and among the changes from previous years students must select only one of the 5 AOIs instead of several. He emphasized that each of the 7 assessment criteria are worth 4 points, which means that things like the Process Journal (recording the story from seed to Outcome) get just as many marks as the Outcome itself. The nice thing about the PP is that you have a completely free choice of the subject, so you can choose something about which you are (or can be) fairly passionate…

I recently finished a science research essay that will be sent for moderation and I copied quite a lot of stuff from an online essay. I submitted my work through Turnitin.com and surprisingly, the system detected only 10% of plagiarism. Will IB find out that I copied most of my stuff from an online source? Thanks!
