I just moved to a school with IB, I'm currently a Sophomore in Pre-IB, with a few IB and AP classes. Taking IB Pre-Calculus and it's not that bad at all. I'm a straight A student. What's the difference between Higher Level and Standard Level, what requirements are needed to be in a HL class? Does IB have any requirements as to which classes are HL and which are SL? What's the final requirement for the IB Diploma? I just feel so lost when people try explaining it to me. Thanks for any help ^.^

As we may have known, the IBDP course is available for examinations in English, French and Spanish. Which language are/were you doing IBDP course in? Is/was your school only offering that language type of course? Any interest in doing the IBDP in another language? I am doing IBDP in English. I think all IB schools in Indonesia offer their courses in English it would be great if we had it in Bahasa Indonesia but I guess I'll still prefer the English course because it will help me to improve my English and prepare me to study abroad What about you guys?

Okay, lots of questions pop up such as 'what do I need to pass?' or 'will I fail if I get a 2?' and nobody knows all of the exact criteria and conditions so here is a list as published by the IB: The IB diploma will be awarded to a candidate whose total score is 24, 25, 26 or 27 points, provided all the following requirements have been met:a. Numeric grades have been awarded in all six subjects registered for the IB diploma. b. All CAS requirements have been met.c. Grades A (highest) to E (lowest) have been awarded for both theory of knowledge and an extended essay, with a grade of at least D in one of them.d. There is no grade 1 in any subject.e. There is no grade 2 at h…

Having done the IB I know full well it's not just me who has time management/procrastination issues, so hopefully other people will find this useful (should there be an answer xP). I've never actually gone as far as a timetable before, but I feel it has become necessary because I genuinely suck at doing anything decent with my time unless forced Does anybody know of some free software which I can use to make myself a daily timetable a la computer? Thanks in advance!

Just throwing this out there, because I see a lot of questions and a lot of wishy-washy answers about this... Your score in certain subjects is made up of components that are internally assessed and externally moderated Addition: some components, like your World Literature essay(s), ToK essay, and of course Extended Essay, are not moderated but assessed (i.e. all sent off) [thanks for lynyrd and imopotato for pointing out that the WL is not moderated] For others, like your IOC, Mathematics portfolios, Science Lab Reports, Economics Portfolio, (and so on), your teacher sends out a "representative" sample The size of this sample depends on the number of students in your cl…

Sup people of the IB. I found a short guide that I wrote a while ago that deals with stress and procrastination. I'll add more to it later (the irony but it is late ) so hopefully it's helpful. There's more to come if I remember Stress Firstly stress at school is mainly caused by lack of organisation. So sorting that out could half or even eliminate your 'i want to rip the hair out of my head' feeling! How to organise work: Invest in a folder if you write notes with a note book and use folder separators to make things easier. This makes losing notes a lot less likely because they are in a named folder. Plus it makes you feel really professional If you're feeling …

Here are a list of IB official teacher support materials for various subjects, and proved to be invaluable for me while doing my internal assessments (and also external assessment for theatre) for all subjects as it provides many exemplars both good and bad. I couldn't find the TSM for economics though... It seems like there's some pretty helpful info, but I can't say for sure until I'm actually enrolled in the classes because hardly any of it pertains to me at the moment. Maybe I wasn't looking well enough but there's no post on IB quotes..! And by IB quotes, I mean, funny, goofy moments.. that happen because of sleep-deprivation, brain overload, sugar/coffee high (or low).. or just generally because you're in the IB.. "Me: *looks at diary* Maths test on thrusday.. alright I'm too tired now, but I can revise tomorrow night... -Next Day in Class- Me: Have you revised for tomorrow's test..? I'm so screwed, I'm going to have to revise all night.. K:*odd stare* Erm.. I have to agree you are screwed... today is thrusday and we have maths now..."

Over the years I've realised that there are a lot of different reasons why someone would choose to do the IB, and all reasons are actually right reasons (like, your parents wanted you to or the school forced you). So I'm curious as to why you guys chose to do IB instead of some other qualification. As for me, there are several reasons actually. If dI didn't do IB I'd be doing a normal high school diploma syllabus which is based on IB anyway (without the pressure of IB exams and IA obviously) but that seemed a bit boring. Also, when I was finishing my IGCSE exams, one of my friends who was finishing off her IB exams at the same time, said to me, "Don't do IB." So, what…

by no means i want to get into your personal life, first of all. i was just wondering, you know, as a IB student, we have to undergo a lot of pressures. we want to do great in every perspectives, but does that mean we have to spend 18 hours on school works? a lot of my friends don't study at all, and guess what they make on their report cards? 100 or above. that is crazy!! one of my girlfriends ( female friends) study literally 6 hours or more, and she said it is worth it. personally, i study at the last minute, and just like a normal human being, i didn't do so hot, of course. i mean, do you have to give up your social life to trade for that diploma? if that's true, do y…

So in my school, I'm in the 2009 candidate class. There are like 110 something girls, and only like 14 guys. It'd be nice, but only a handful are semi-attractive. Whenever you talk to an IB girl, All they wanna talk about is bitch about how much homework they have, they're progress on their current IA, or talk bad about the teachers. It's really bad. Girls: Are you like this in other schools?

I'm forecasted for IB Diploma next year. What do you think are the hardest and easiest classes? Here is planned schedule for now: English A1 HL Biology HL History HL Math SL Theatre SL Spanish SL Extended essay topic would likely be on the cultural influence of the Wizard of Oz. CAS is easily taken care of (swim team, acting, zoo volunteering). Is this too unrealistic, in your opinion? What did you find to be the hardest and easiest classes?

come on guys, let's have some "moment of truths" time. IB IS challenging and i strongly doubt that anyone would say it is too easy or i love it!! if i'm wrong, please prove or explain to me!! anyway, when i reached that point, and i just can't take it anymore, i do some crazy stuff. other people probably cry or throw stuff ( which i tried but it wasn't so effective) i would simply jump or run until all of my energy ran out and go to sleep. i looked like a maniac by the way, but i do feel a lot better. you? p.s. if you found out that my method actually gonna work, please let me know. a sincere thank you

At my school, pretty much everyone going for the diploma has to take the same courses, as we only offer Math SL, Physics SL, English HL, Bio HL, Film SL and HL, English HL, History SL/HL, Spanish SL and Env. Studies SL. (this is only our 3rd year of offering IB) It aggravates me as I want to go into evo devo and neuropsych so a Philosophy or Psychology HL course would be awesome. Or even Chem HL, I love chemistry. Does your school offer every IB course?

YOU KNOW YOU ARE IB WHEN..... You And Reality file for divorce. You have great revelations concerning Life, the Universe, and Everything else, but can't quite find the words for them before the white glow fades, leaving you more confused than before. You begin to talk to yourself, then disagree about the subject, get into a nasty row about it, lose, and refuse to talk to yourself for the rest of the day. Five words: "WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?!?!?!?!?" You can spell "Baccalaureate". "I.B., therefore I B.S." "Friends" and "fellow IBers" are interchangeable. You've fooled yourself into believing that colleges actually care whether you're in IB or not. You frequently ca…

Take the quiz here. Man, IB is taking over the world if there's actually a quiz for it. My result: You are the Procrastinator. You always put everything off until the last second, and your grades suffer for it. Try starting your homework BEFORE 11:00 PM Why did I expect this? For the record though, I might procrastinate but my grades don't suffer that much for it. I don't procrastinate that much.

Good Evening good people at I-B survival, I bring a question that needs to be answered in my books anyways. Are we Elitist? Do we think we are better than "other" students? My school is split between the I-B curriculum and the regular provincial curriculum (I go to a public school that offers IB), they are both taught in my school and it seems that we as an entity in the school look down upon the individuals that are taking the Provincial Curriculum. Does this occur all over the world or is My school in Canada like Frasier Crane and The Trailer Park Boys going to the same school?

Hi everybody, I would like to know whether how many students are there in your class. I have only 1 classmate (so that makes us only 2 students in IB 1 class and my seniors are just 5 ( and now they have left the school. I always feel very sad because there is only one classmate and IB tends to have many discussions ( it is boring and very stressful to discuss with only one student) and the discussions ends up with bitter fights and quarrels which may even last for weeks ( for many weeks we won't make any eye contacts nor talk to each other for weeks.) I am really curious to know whether how is it to have more than 2 students in class.

So this year, my IB school has 50 places and 79 people applied, so about 63% of applicants get in. They give applicants a score out of 20, 10 max. points from average, 8 max. from entrance tests you take and 2 for how international you are. So the people with the 50 best scores get in. How about your schools?

Ok, so at our school they told us that even the best students shouldn't expect to get above a 39, because it's very rare and almost impossible, but when I was reading the "University Offers 2009", I keep seeing that people are predicted 40 and above. I am an IB 1 student, so I still have time to worry about my own predicted grades, but at my school they said that last year only 1 person got a 7 in Psych HL, nobody got a 7 in English HL, and that the class with more 7s was SL Biology, and I think that they had 4 students getting a 7. Is my school's preparation level really low or are all those people just smart? I'm really curious because my school is considered one of t…

This is based on the thread "IB courses you wish you could have taken, but couldn't". Because, personally, I find it more interesting to hear about regrets and disappointments. Anyway, to start with my own... In hindsight, I wish I took Biology SL instead of Physics SL. The biology class next door to us likes to tease us by constantly bringing in food and watching youtube videos, whilst we sit, take notes, do problems, and actually do work. I slightly regret taking geography as well, because economics looks pretty fun, easy and perhaps even useful! At least I don't regret taking Maths HL.
