Okay, lots of questions pop up such as 'what do I need to pass?' or 'will I fail if I get a 2?' and nobody knows all of the exact criteria and conditions so here is a list as published by the IB: The IB diploma will be awarded to a candidate whose total score is 24, 25, 26 or 27 points, provided all the following requirements have been met:a. Numeric grades have been awarded in all six subjects registered for the IB diploma. b. All CAS requirements have been met.c. Grades A (highest) to E (lowest) have been awarded for both theory of knowledge and an extended essay, with a grade of at least D in one of them.d. There is no grade 1 in any subject.e. There is no grade 2 at h…

I just moved to a school with IB, I'm currently a Sophomore in Pre-IB, with a few IB and AP classes. Taking IB Pre-Calculus and it's not that bad at all. I'm a straight A student. What's the difference between Higher Level and Standard Level, what requirements are needed to be in a HL class? Does IB have any requirements as to which classes are HL and which are SL? What's the final requirement for the IB Diploma? I just feel so lost when people try explaining it to me. Thanks for any help ^.^

Having done the IB I know full well it's not just me who has time management/procrastination issues, so hopefully other people will find this useful (should there be an answer xP). I've never actually gone as far as a timetable before, but I feel it has become necessary because I genuinely suck at doing anything decent with my time unless forced Does anybody know of some free software which I can use to make myself a daily timetable a la computer? Thanks in advance!

Just throwing this out there, because I see a lot of questions and a lot of wishy-washy answers about this... Your score in certain subjects is made up of components that are internally assessed and externally moderated Addition: some components, like your World Literature essay(s), ToK essay, and of course Extended Essay, are not moderated but assessed (i.e. all sent off) [thanks for lynyrd and imopotato for pointing out that the WL is not moderated] For others, like your IOC, Mathematics portfolios, Science Lab Reports, Economics Portfolio, (and so on), your teacher sends out a "representative" sample The size of this sample depends on the number of students in your cl…

Here are a list of IB official teacher support materials for various subjects, and proved to be invaluable for me while doing my internal assessments (and also external assessment for theatre) for all subjects as it provides many exemplars both good and bad. I couldn't find the TSM for economics though... Sup people of the IB. I found a short guide that I wrote a while ago that deals with stress and procrastination. I'll add more to it later (the irony but it is late ) so hopefully it's helpful. There's more to come if I remember Stress Firstly stress at school is mainly caused by lack of organisation. So sorting that out could half or even eliminate your 'i want to rip the hair out of my head' feeling! How to organise work: Invest in a folder if you write notes with a note book and use folder separators to make things easier. This makes losing notes a lot less likely because they are in a named folder. Plus it makes you feel really professional If you're feeling …

As we may have known, the IBDP course is available for examinations in English, French and Spanish. Which language are/were you doing IBDP course in? Is/was your school only offering that language type of course? Any interest in doing the IBDP in another language? I am doing IBDP in English. I think all IB schools in Indonesia offer their courses in English it would be great if we had it in Bahasa Indonesia but I guess I'll still prefer the English course because it will help me to improve my English and prepare me to study abroad What about you guys?

While I was in IB a friend of mine decided to do a Physics IB grade calculator, another friend then added Economics into the calculator, and then I decided to add as many other subjects I could. Ok, now that the necessary credit has been given to my friends I can now explain how this works. Most IB students wonder how much they need to get a 7, how close they are, how many points they need in the exams, given that they already know their IA grades, etc. With this calculator I hope to make it a lot easier for everyone to find these things out. You simply find the subject you want, then put in the amount of points in each component (e.g. Internal Assessment, Paper 1, Paper …

Hi you guys, I'm hoping to start IB next year and I have read A LOT of forums with many people saying how hard it is and stuff.. But I will see that next year. I just have one question: you graduate when you have 28 points right, so 38 points is - relatively - a lot above that. I am an HAVO student in the Netherlands now, which is the one level beneath the highest level here (VWO; you can go straight to uni then). Though my teachers say my current education is lower than what I'm capable of, I am a bit afraid that 36 or 38 points will be hard to achieve. I am ready to learn a lot and give up things, cause this is what I want (and what i will pay a big amount of mo…

When not succeeding to pass an IB exam, this means you would not be able to get in to university. The problem for me is, as it follows; all universities that I have applied to rejected me. Now that gave a useless feeling, a feeling of ultimate depression. Also I have not discussed this with anyone- but would suicide help to solve the problem? Revision is not going well at all- takes incredibly a long time to work through the past papers. I considering to get out of this misery. Hey guys, this has been vexing me for quite a bit of time now. Can anyone give me the specifics of how the IBO markers arrive at your final numerical mark on the scale of 1 - 7? I know that this mark is based on a bell-curved scale of marks from IB students everywhere. However, what I'm really confused about is how they factor in the internal assessment. I'm aware that the IA and the EA both bear different weightings. However, is the IA also marked on a bell-curved scale (based on global results)? I'm particularly perplexed about the Language B internal assessment. I'm aware that it's worth 30% of the grade but at my school, we have one oral exam worth 15% and three oral …

So I just got my results in earlier today, and it is absolutely heart wrenching. I always had trouble doing tests in exam conditions. I am a massive procrastinator and just can't concentrate. I always get distracted by the simplest of things. I do Film HL, Human Factors Design HL, Philosophy HL, Chinese B SL, Maths SL, and Eng Lang SL. I got a 4 on every subject in SL and in two of my HL subjects... But I got a 3 in Philosophy. So I got a 23 + 1 from the TOK/EE. So I have a 24 in IB. But because my HL subjects add up to 11 and not 12. I failed my IB Diploma, and will not receive it. The university I applied to only needs 24 marks minimum, and a 4 in 2 HL subj…

I had a friend tell my worrying self that if I apply to a university and I am not awarded a diploma due to getting a 1 in maths (but get 5 certificates for the others exceeding 24 points) then they shouldn't worry too much and let me in. This would be great because I'm having my exams at the moment and I look set to get a 1 in maths because of bad internal marks and general incompetence with maths. The university I am looking at, for IB requirements it states 24 points. I don't want to contact them now and ask about letting someone in who failed the diploma just in case I get a negative answer in the middle of my exams, so I want to ask here first for people's experiences…

Hello, I am 16 years old and just moved to Dubai this summer. I started the first year of the IB Diploma Programme in September, over here. I am struggling at school because of the new environment. The class sizes are huge, and I'm having problems settling in, even though it's been two months since school started. I spoke to my parents about changing schools, and they were extremely understanding, even though I was the one who chose to go to this school. However, we looked for every possible IB school in Dubai, and were unsuccessful. From the look of it, the predicted grades are not that reliable ("A guy from my school was predicted 41 but got 27. Bummer." vs. "Predicted 6 but got 7 in actual"). If so, what's the point of them? How are they used to improve your actual marks? I'm already on the fence of doing IB and the thought of IB marks potentially messing up my chance of IB worries me.

I'm forecasted for IB Diploma next year. What do you think are the hardest and easiest classes? Here is planned schedule for now: English A1 HL Biology HL History HL Math SL Theatre SL Spanish SL Extended essay topic would likely be on the cultural influence of the Wizard of Oz. For example, let's suppose that the grade boundaries (overall) for physics HL are as follows; 7: 71-1006: 60-705: 50-594: 40-493: 29-392: 17-281: 0-16 Let's suppose that a student writes a high 6 on paper 1 (which is most likely around 75%, considering that the grade boundaries for pp1 are higher) and a 7 on paper 2 (72% for example). Does the student still receive a 7, as the average grade exceeds the 7 on the overall grade boundaries, or will he receive a 6 because he wrote a 6 on pp1? tl;dr: Is the average of all of the papers taken and compared to the overall grade boundaries or is the lowest grade of all the papers taken for the final grade?

It's no secret that the IB comes up with different variants of the papers so that everyone gets a fair shot at a good grade. (Edit: sorry! Head's gone all fuzzy!) But what I find bewildering is the whole thing about the IB in May is said to be easier than the November session. It's something that's been floating around my school for awhile, but I never had the chance to find out for myself. Now I'm not one to believe these kind of stuff, after all, the grade boundaries would shift accordingly, but this is something I experienced when I did the IGCSEs too. The May session is significantly easier than the November ones and it's ridiculous how obvious it is - the same questio…

This isn't about retaking exams after 6 months if you fail/do badly the first time you do them, but rather about sitting the exam after everyone else in the world has done it if there are exceptional circumstances for you not being able to sit the exam in the first place. Hi, My Math SL teacher told us today that there exist to different sets of tests for each session of Math SL. Namely, this means that there is one test for timezone A and timezone B, so candidate's in e.g. America can't call Australian students beforehand. This was totally new information to me, so I'm curious to know is it the same for all subjects, and what the timezones are (what timezones are test A and B done in?).

Hello! I have just started IB and I was wondering what some people did to get 7's and what school mark would correspond to a seven. How do teachers come up with a predicted mark? The first couple math tests have been hard and the class average has been really low. Should I be discouraged that I'm not getting 95%'s? I'm looking for a seven PREDICTED in all classes if possible. Thanks.
