Hi all, thought I would just upload the IB Psychology HL revision guide I made for my CAS Major. This guide isn't perfect but from the feedback I got from my teacher and people that are using it I feel that it is a very solid revision guide. There is generally evaluation for most of research and I have lots of supporting and counter research provided. I hope this helps you guys revise because I know Psychology is a pain in the ass to revise for. Please don't take this work and say its your own, I spent a lot of time on it. By the way, in case your interested the major sources I used are the Pearson Baccalaureate Psychology textbook, the IB course companion and the oxford…

I sat my IB Psych SL exam last year (anticipated yay!) and I have a fairly good understanding of how to structure a good response to P1 (which is pretty much the same for P2 as well). I thought I'd share. Before I start, I think it is imperative that you get in to the habit of planning your response - it doesn't take long, and it will save you!! It will make you organise your ideas logically and certainly improve the quality of your language. You will be forced to be prudent in your evaluation, and examiners will totally see that you know what you are talking about! The concise and general steps to planning and answering questions 1. Read the Q twice (or as many times…

I've a question that has been bugging me since the beginning of the year, because as far as I have understood, we answer three short answer questions, one in each level of analysis, and write an essay. My teacher says that all short answer questions come from learning outcomes, but also that all essay questions are based on learning outcomes. But how does one distinguish between an "essay outcome" and a "short answer outcome"? Can anybody explain this to me? Is it simply a matter of how complex the question is? I'm confused.

So I thought I was all set up and ready, and did my IA recently. Let's just say it didn't go as well as it could. Several things went wrong. So I'm going to post them here so anyone else doing the IA can learn from my mistakes. 1. When you are recruiting people to be a part of your study, make sure you give them something physical with your information and officially take down their names and contact numbers. Make sure it seems like something that can't just be skipped if they feel like it, because apparently going to a Psychology study doesn't automatically rank as something important in peoples minds. I didn't do this and my partner ended up running around school recrui…

Hello all I believe we are all studying hard for the May exam! I am sharing the same pain as well. However, I read the rubric for psychology's essays and I have to say that marks are easily obtained if you follow a certain structure in writing your essay. I wish we can all share essay structure techniques here and get feedbacks from others as well. Here are my techniques: - KNOW THE COMMAND TERM. I can't stress this enough. Every mark scheme will stress that, 'The answer satisfy the command term.' If you missed this step I don't think you will do well at all. How you break down the question and plan your essay are base on the command term. - Always plan before you writ…

There has always seemed to me to be a startling lack of resources when it comes to IB Psychology. Up until now my class has been using an A-Levels textbook, which was quite inconvenient, as you can imagine - different course and all. We looked online for ages for an actual IB one, but alas, none could be found. But today, for the first time, I held in my hands a textbook which actually contained within it the IB Psychology course... and let me tell you, friends - it was a damn good feeling. B) It's an Australian one that's only just been published. I don't know if other countries have published textbooks for IB Psych, but up until now I've never been able to find one.…

I am in the Pre-IB year this year, and doing IB this coming September. My HLs are Chemistry, Biology and either Psy. or English A1. My english is'nt too bad, I think I can get a 5 or so in English A1 HL. However, I also considered the possibility of psychology HL, and moving English A1 to Sl so I can have a higher chance in getting a 6 or a 7. However, putting psy. in HL when I haven't touched it before may be risky, and I may risk getting a 4 or 5 or maybe even not passing. Does anyone know if psychology HL is risky for someone who hasn't done it before, and whether English A1 HL will be better or not? Thank you

One of the older students at my school who's in the IB (I'm in pre-IB) told me that you have to read double as much material in the Psychology course as in the History course. I guess this is not true. Anyways, I know that history involves a heck of lot of reading, but is psychology actually even worse?

Okay, so. I'm Psychology HL and at my school we use the Oxford course companion for Psychology. But then, I went through past papers, and in paper 1 (the core)and instead of Sociocultural it was Learning and Human perspective. Is that a substitute for Sociocultural or a new topic as a whole? Should I refer to some other book? Please help me out!

You know it's bound to appear in psychology as well Anyways, self-explainatory. Which option did you take in psychology? We are doing Psychodynamic Psychology and Social Psychology. I wanted myself to do dysfunctional, Cultural or health psychology instead of psychodynamic but our teacher wanted PD since he had done it before and in the end, everyone agreed upon it. At first, the prospect of studying Freud in depth wasn't very fun for me but now I actually realized that it is a really good perspective and that there are in fact a lot of good things that have come out of it. He's not as bad as some may think he is

Alright, it is time to begin my EE and as we are briefed on the steps to take and what not, our coordinator informs us not to do an EE on Psychology. I am very interested in Psychology and was assuming that it would be okay. It would be easier to do a different subject I had been informed and had then decided to do a History EE. Well. Now I am not so sure that I should do a History EE but a Psych. Should I do a Psych EE?

Okay so I have just realized how unprepared I actually am for the psychology exams. You see, for the first whole year our teacher never used past exams or introduced us to how exam questions are set up. Instead our tests were really simple such as 'define imprinting', 'give an example of positive and negative reinforcement' and etc. Then when in our second year, we started with the real questions and it's a huge difference, especially the 20 points one. I have been having a real hard time to actually do well on those. I am predicted a 6 but I'm aiming for a 7 yet the past tests that I've done, I've only been given a 5. I just find it so hard to know what the examiner are…

Hey guys, just wondering how you guys take your notes I do mine electronically, but not in very organised fashion and I end up summarising them on paper since I tend to remember it better. Also here's a really good tip I think that many people don't use, have a separate logbook for your studies, so print out the study and staple it to one page and on the other page do your Aim, Method, Procedure, Results, Conclusion (we call it all mobile phones ring constantly haha). Still haven't really found the best method yet but still experimenting. What about you? And how's it working out?

Hi! I'm about to enter my first year of IB in August, and I'm taking SL Psychology through Pamoja. I haven't seen many threads about online courses, specifically psychology, but I'm sorry if I'm mistaken and these questions have already been answered. Basically: What was your experience in taking psych through Pamoja? Did you have a good teacher? Did you like the layout of information? Is this class really difficult? (I'm wondering if I can bump it up to HL, if that's not a hassle for an online course.) Would you recommend getting a textbook? (I'm looking at the Pearson Baccalaureate, but I'd like to avoid it because it's super expensive.) I hop…

For my Psychology IA, I conducted a study in which I told participants to read out loud a list of words, the words were color names printed in black (this is condition one) and wrote down the time they took to complete the task. Then, I gave them another list of words, but printed in colors different than what their names pronounced (for example: red, green, blue), this was condition two. There are no control groups or experimental groups since every participant went through both conditions. However, I'm having trouble in the inferential statistics criteria for my paper. I don't know what test to use. Please help.

Hello!! I am writing my psychology IA right now, but now I'm at the result section and I don't understand a thing! My teacher does not explain this well, and he doesn't seem to be certain about what he's doing. There was actually a few people last year who failed their psychology, mainly because of their IAs so I'm a bit terrified! I'm a HL student, so I will need inferential statistics but how does that actually work?? For example, my teacher said I should use the General Linear Model, but I don't know if I'm allowed to use that.. I haven't found anyone who have used it before, but it does calculated the level of significance. Also, do I need a graph or somethi…

My exam's in a few days, and I read on this website, that to get a 7, you need 68%, however from the graduates I spoke to last year, they said that the grade boundary for a 7 is 73%. I was kinda confused, so I just wanted to make it clear. Is it 68%? Or higher? Because it's the NOV exam, or 73%+ ? Thanks!

I understand that paper 2 includes 3 questions from each option. What I'm wondering is whether each question will be from one sub-section of each each (e.g. one on violence, one on relationships, and one on social responsibility in the human relations section). Can I essentially memorize long answers to every question in social responsibility and be sure that one of them will be on the exam? I'm in SL, so I'll only have to answer one.

Hey everyone, I was wondering how much of the Psych HL syllabus should have been covered in the first year of study. Our teacher is quite inexperienced, and I'm worried that she left too much to teach on our second year. So far, we've learnt the biologcal, sociocultural, and developmental units of psychology. That's a total of 90 hours of teaching according to the IB syllabus (30 hours each), which leaves 150 hours of teaching for the second year, out of the total of 240 teaching hours in the Psych HL syllabus. So, how much of the syllabus are we meant to go through in year 1, and will we realistically be able to learn the rest of the syllabus by May?

Hey, I am contemplating whether to do Psychology SL or HL (obviously from the title haha). I honestly do not see the logic of understanding and memorising over 12 essays for each syllabus point for each chapter. when only one essay of each chapter will appear on the exam. Thats a probably of less than 10% that the essay you studied will be on the exam depending on each chapter. Is it not just the probably of being lucky on the exam? Moreover, didnt only 4% get a 7 for Psychology HL last year? Although I am doing exceptionally well in the subject, I just do not feel motivated to study Psychology whatsoever. Many people find it stupid that I want to do SL and take up anothe…

Our teacher showed us the Paper 2 questions from past two years, and it seemed like there was one question from each section of an option. For example, under Human Relationships there was a question on social responsibility, interpersonal relationships and violence (sections 8.1, 8.2 & 8.3 respectively). Does anyone know whether this is a typical pattern in Paper 2 exams?

Hello all, With the paper 2 coming two days later, I wanted to clarify if my method of studying for the paper 2 works. By looking at past paper 2 questions, three questions from different topics in an option are asked. Furthermore, no two questions are from the same topic. For example, in the option health, if the learning outcome "discuss physiological, psychological and social aspects of stress" is asked, the other outcome "Evaluate strategies for coping with stress" is not likely to be asked. (instead, the other questions will most likely be about obesity etc) Therefore, I would like to enquire if it's alright to simply study one section of the topic and memorize e…

- is it okay? My teacher said we should not use the Zimbaro Stanford Prison Experiment for the question in SLA that asks for an evaluation on social identity theory. He said there are too many factors involved in the Zimbardo experiment. However, I find the experiment very intriguing and easy to memorise/ very applicable to a lot of other questions. So do you recommend that I still use the Zimbardo experiment for some questions in the SLA, particularly to demonstrate one of the principles in SLA, to illustrate situational factors, and to be an example for one of the research methods (experiment)? Any thoughts? What would be a good substitute if not? Thanks

I am looking for an OSC IB Revision Book for Psych HL. Unfortunately, the OSC site won't have them available until March, and I can't find one anywhere else. If not, could somebody recomend a similar book which I might be able to use to study for my midterm exams? Ok, cheers, and thanks.

I'm a grade 10 myp student in Ontario Canada and I had to take two HL courses for next year, so I took Psych as one of them.
