kuns_nb
I am doing a maths HL IA on proving the Merssene primes and in the end i planned to write about their applications. The problem came when I came across their use in perfect numbers. If anyone is not aware, they are the numbers who are the sum of their proper factors and every even perfect number has only one Merssene prime among its factors. The ultimate problem is that there is no real world application of the perfect numbers so how do I emphasize the importance of the perfect numbers as the only reason that mathematicians still work on them is because they are cool? How is something like that generally approached in the IB? kevG
Well answering your personal engagement section criteria is supposed to be your job and you want us to answer that? You can fill your personal engagement by first think about a real life problem/scenario and then invest some mathematical concept with it. This is how it normally goes. tbh its just bs, you can say stuff like you're reading a book and you found this concept intriguing etc etc Reply
kuns_nb
I didn't wanted the whole personal engagement section to be answered but i specifically wanted to know how things that surely don't have any practical application in real world are handled in IB cause in class all we've dealt with had some applicability. But thanks for your help kevG. Reply
