lynyrd
My exam is approaching and we're starting the environmental chemistry option which I find it kind of easy, but as the times are too short, my teacher will give us the choice to study the option we want, so I was wondering which of the options for HL were the easiest ones? Tsubaki
It's really not a matter of which options are easiest as which to avoid: namely, Analytical Chemistry and Further Organic Chemistry. Stay away from those and you should be fine. I personally did Environmental Chemistry and Medicines and Drugs, and they were a breeze. I studied a little Food Chemistry as well, and that was rather easy too. Any two of those three should give you an easy time. Reply
Sandwich
Medicines and Drugs is a good choice I did that one and even if the questions in the exam turned out to be kinda pretty hard (abnormally hard...), it was the only genuinely interesting part of the whole of Chemistry HL so all in all I'd recommend it.Do NOT do Further Organic Chemistry. It will destroy you >8[ (Maybe not, but it's horrible). Reply
Tilia
Analytical chemistry was fun, but it took a while to really get it, so don't take it if you're short of time. Medicine and dugs is fairly easy and straightforward. What I heard from class mates, human biochemistry was pretty difficult as well. Reply
x___x
Ah well, about the further organic chemistry thing, as everyone said, it's a bit confusing. But, if, and only if, you liked organic chemistry in the core, you should like this . The concepts are not hard, but you need to practice a lot. Plus there are certain things you need to actually memorise, like reaction conditions. Mechanisms will possibly annoy you, too! Environmental chemistry is easy and interesting, especially the ozone depletion part . Questions in the exam are easy compared to other options. Daedalus
I agree with what the others have said. Stay away from Organic, go for Meds and Drugs (which is quite fun as well). Industry/Technology might be easier if you have an IGCSE background, but I've heard environmental is the easiest in general. Reply
saunders is god
i've heard analytical and environmental are the two easiest. lol more organic chem would be torture but we haven't started options yet, still a long way to go Reply
Tilia
But, if, and only if, you liked organic chemistry in the core, you should like this The thing is, nobody does Reply
Jay Batavia
Am I actually the only one here who LIKES Further Organic? Out of all the topics, I find Organic Chemistry the easiest. As for me, we're doing Further Organic and Chemistry in industry and technology.. 1 Reply
Mahuta ♥
Nope you're not the only one..I loved further organic. It's the best one if you're doing Chem HL! It just makes the HL organic chapter much more easier to see the trend of all the chemical reactions. Reply
Alex1307
Take Biochemistry if you're also doing Biology as an IB course. It's basically the same stuff you learn in the first chapters. Reply
Mahuta ♥
Yup also the same things you learn in DNA chapter with the protein structures and all that. It's the same stuff, but you just have to see in a chemical way rather than a biological way. Reply
Miss_mischy
Actually, my school decided to do human biochemistry and further organic chemistry. As I'm doing Biology as well, maybe human biochemistry isn't too bad. That's what was written earlier. Reply
~Lc~
enviro is the shortest so it is the easiest in a way that it's all straight forward, and there's not a lot of material to remember! Industrial is the 2nd easiest. They're the two options we did, and I recommend doing them Reply
The Economist
What are your thoughts on option C: chemistry in industry and technology? We did human biochemistry but I sincerely found it extremely boring to learn. While I was going through option C though, I found it quite interesting (for instance there is a part on nanotechnology) and more into chemistry compared to human bio. Is it harder though? fan
well if you like it I doubt it will be I am not doing that option so i am not sure of the difficulty level.. Reply

Drake Glau
We're doing biochemistry and drugs/medicine. I'm already taking HL Biology to biochemistry was a breeze...and drugs and medicine is really easy and honestly it wasn't all that "chemistry" intensive (no math, not much in the whole compound side of things aside from antacids and such). Those were only SL though last during HL1, haven't started topics for HL2 yet this year...Is analytical very number based? I'd love that Reply
sid1729
Well my class is doing:-1 - Environmental .... which is long but easy to grasp and in a way interesting2 - Further Organic.... is a little complex... but short .. not soo bad!
