azulverde:)
huck finn... hated that book. Fell asleep reading it Reply
Ray
I've only been in IB for one year and the only book that I actually hated was "The Women Warrior" by Maxine Hong Kingston. It has no plot at all and explicitley bashes Chinese culture and she herself is Chinese! Such a horrible book. Reply
wombat123
Romeo and Juliet (pre-IB grade nine) is probably my least favourite. I know it's a classic and all, but since I had already heard the storyline 2000 times in my childhood, having to read it in Shakespearean language was painful. I didn't pay much attention to A Midsummer's Night Dream either. I guess I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare. Reply
vira.may
most of the Pre-IB books I read were extremely bad, but as for actual IB books, I absolutely hated "the Wars" by Timothy Findley. Reply
Jazmine
Okay for PRE-IB I had to read A Splendid Exchange, the history if trading. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo horrible. I didn't have to read this but older IB kids before me had to read Salt. So we've got long boring books about the history about trading and salt, interesting choices, no? Bishup
I hated "the stranger"Really how come? Some French people dislike it due to Camus' melancholic writing style that some people are sometimes too familiar with, but most people really liked it. Proletariat
Sad face at someone hating Marquez Love his work.I have to say that the worst I read was The Taming of the Shrew. The end's just a steaming pile of crap, really. And Othello was not all that better. In fact, the latter actually provoked me enough to call out Shakespeare in my English class and accuse him of poor character development and lacking imagination. That sure got people quiet. But my teacher took it well, surprisingly. Reply
radishes.at.noon
Anthem by Ayn Rand (pre-IB)I have read MUCH better books outside of class. It wasn't even THINLY veiled philosophy, she just ranted outright and then tried to sort-of-kind-of mix a plot in. sid1729
SANDCHILD... by tahar ben jelloun !! ..... was one of the books we had for world literature!! Reply
kiwi.at.heart
Had to read Othello and Macbeth last year, and Merchant of Venice the year before. Even after studying them I find it real hard to pick up an exact and understand what is actually being said. Any books I can't understand I generally do not like Reply
Proletariat
Anthem by Ayn Rand (pre-IB)I have read MUCH better books outside of class. It wasn't even THINLY veiled philosophy, she just ranted outright and then tried to sort-of-kind-of mix a plot in. Sounds like the exact same thing as Atlas Shrugged. And the sad thing is the number of people in the States who love her work (although I would at least hope they favour her political/philosophical tenets, however misguided/incomplete I personally feel they are, and not her literary talent, which is rather insubstantial.) (Kevin)
House on Mango Street and A Summer Life both in 9th grade Pre-IB (what I'm in now).I didn't even finish HOSM because we didn't have to annotate the last half and there weren't any quizzes on the last half!
