I absolutely love the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.
i know i know, i've fallen into the vampire craze but they actually hardly mention the vampire aspect at all. Generally I prefer more complex literature, especially Russian novels, but this really grabbed me as it is such an easy read yet each book has a cliff hanger and great drama for some light entertainment. The characters are intense and it's surprisingly difficult not to get emotionally involved!
I also love all of Jane Austens's books, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and a good bit of HP :)

I personally really like really simple plots with nothing to analyze. Like Percy Jackson?
Although I really did enjoy Dom Casmurro.

The Book of The New Sun series (4 vol.) by Gene Wolfe, genious!
Science fiction/philosophy/love/debate, the protagonist has got a cool name and is HOT - IT'S COMPLETE!

Two of my favourite authors are Fjodor Dostojevskij and Hjalmar Söderberg.

I really don't like expressing dislike for books which everyone hates on, not be cause they aren't bad, but because they are bad for obvious reasons that don't really lend to thoughtful discussion. Having a big hate fest only serves to reinforce an unfounded feeling of self importance and propagate an elitist mob mentality. Not to mention put down those who enjoy said book.

I thought the Lightning Thief was a cute book and it's obviously for a lower age range, so it's not unforgivable that it's less complex than Russian masterpieces.

Thanks guys, i'll be sure to check them out.

How about genre's? What would you say is your favourite genre's?

Mine would probably be Science-Fiction, and/or Dystopian settings in the future, but I also like thriller, especially those with a pretty giant plot

edit: Forgot to say I LOVED Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer. I read it a 3-4 years back, and for a week, every other book seemed bland. Now I own a copy :console:

The Time Traveler's Wife is pretty good. I wouldn't say it's the best piece of literature ever but I enjoyed it.

I loved Phillippa Gregory's Tudor series (The Other Boleyn Girl - movie was horrible though, The Constant Princess, etc). She managed to make me sympathise with both Katherine and Anne and Mary which is interesting because her characterisation of all three was quite radical. The historical inaccuracies could be quite jarring if you care too much about it like me, but overall the books got me hooked enough that I could forget them for a while and just enjoy it.
