Sounds like a rather difficult task in my opinion. Chili is usually associated with strong feelings and that hold true for this chapter (as well as all other chapters in the book). Daedalus
What type of interactive activities (with the class) can be done to incorporate theme? If you've read LWFC, we're doing the last chapter, December, and we need to relate the recipe (Chiles and Walnut Sauce) to plot, character and themes. Thanks!Creative idea? Bring the cooked product from the recipe to class, ask people to get into a group, and give each of them a sheet of paper with a large circled adjective in the center: one that both describes an aspect the taste of the food and relates to the themes of the novel/chapter. Ask them to brainstorm stuff in the book related to the theme (after trying the recipe of course) and then present in front of the class.
