If I'm thinking about the same thing you're thinking of, these awards are a new feature. The staff shows its appreciation of special members who contribute to the IBS community in various areas by being helpful and thoughtful through these awards, among other things. If a member receives an award, you can see it on his or her profile and to the left of the posts the person has made.

We're still setting up the awards, but as sweetnsimple mentioned, they are awards given out by mods/staff to members who we think deserve them.
