Eastcoast93
statistics is quire easy (cumulative frequency curves, mean, median, mode, range, box and whisker plots,...), nothing you haven't done before normal distribution is slightly more challenging, particularly if you have to standardize for paper 1 probability is not too hard in my opinion. its basically understanding the question (text) and then applying the correct formula, which are all given in the formula booklet. binomial distribution is quite nice, especially on paper 2 where you have access to the calculator. overall i find the applications of calculus (kinematics) and trigonometric equations/ logarithms the hardest. matrices is by far the easiest topic. sequences and series is close to follow, usually being very accessible. vectors is a nice topic i think (don't understand what people have against them)- theres basically only very limited approaches possible, thereby it is not too hard to figure out what they want. heres a video on IB SL Statistics and Probability Review- check it out, they have videos on all topics: Edited April 9, 2012 by Eastcoast93 2 Reply
Costello
I didn't find calculus difficult at all. Vectors, on the other hand, hurt my brain. Reply
Jyrgen
Has to be basic algebra for me Can't even do a division without a calculator to save my life. Should've taken Studies, but w'ever. I also have huge difficulties with everything involving graphs, but I'm actually pretty good at the calculus stuff. Reply
Liberal Lady
I despised vectors. That section was hard to wrap my brain around.I, on the other hand, quite liked Probability and Statistics, and I'm doing fairly well with Calculus right now. omri
Vectors.Binomial expansion (not hard, but confusing).Multiplying 3x3 matrices (really easy to make a mistake) Reply
thisisgeorgejones
Vectors is horrible. Calculus and stats are alright (thanks GDC lol), just remembering my basic algebra that's the problem. I make silly mistakes too often.. Reply
Tony Stark
Vectors, vectors, vectors. Easy choice. After that, probably the later aspects of Probability and Volumes of Revolution, though neither are too challenging. Reply
Eastcoast93
Vectors really? I am by no means a maths brain but that is quite a simple topic imo i am quite surprised, i actually hope that the section B on both papers have vectors on it haha. I feel like the approaches are so limited, they always ask about scalar product, angle between vectors and some normal systems of linear equations....i am worried now that everyone is complaining about vectors Reply
bulareo
I think nothing is "The hardest", it is just the way of understanding each concepts...if I revise something that is really hard, then I will be able to understand the stuff.... dniviE
Haven't done further than Calculus and Integration at the moment. Intergration is pretty annoying sometimes, but it's all about paying attention to the 'easy' math in it. Trigonometry has to be the worst topic I have had so far. It killed my brain, haha! aangel
Probability and Statistics. Calculus hard as well... Reply
Aman Mehta
I don't know why everyone thinks calculus and vectors are so hard. Vectors are easy. Calculus is easy, I find it really builds on itself, reinforcing it in your mind better. The hardest thing in calculus is probably optimisation and related rates, which can range from not that bad to ugly.Statistics and probability are by far the hardest part of the course.statistics is easy crap. probability is the real pain Reply
goldenarrow
i would say probability was the hardest - even with application of formulas, you might not get the answer that the book says is correct... Reply
jebsjebs
I would say vectors, but also some calculus problems are quite tricky. Reply
Ibomorelikeibno
Calculus is the easiest part ! Probability, and Trigo are the hardest. Statistics is nice, Vectors are annoying and finally, Matrices ranking as the easiest Reply
Matsu
In theory, calculus is supposed to be the hardest. In practice, vectors is the most f*cked up thing I've studied in IB math ever.edit: Honorable mention to Matrices!
