ok, so i'm just curious about whether serious opposites between people matter? (i.e in a relationship)

for example, one person is a dog person, and the other is a cat person. Could this be an indicator that they are completly different and probably have incompatible personalities?

If the above can be said to be true, can you think of any other examples?

Just thought it would be interesting . :)

If they have incompatible personalities then they wouldn't really work would they? Since they're incompatible and everything. I don't think being a dog or a cat person should be classed as a serious opposite. Cats and Dogs can be compatible as shown by following adorable picture:

So i think opposites can work i'll give you an example. Plus i think that your cats and dogs thing was meant to be a metaphor of some sort so i'll leave that alone.

If a lady type person enjoyed being active and busy whereas i hated working etc then she'd work for me since i'm the boss ( :shifty: )
If a lady type person loved the sun whereas i loved the sea then we'd go to the beach during the sunset.

However if they do not appreciate chicken then going to restaurants will be incredibly awkward.

did any of what said make sense? No but that doesn't matter to me :)

haha, well im not exactly sure if the chicken analogy really applies... :S

well i mean sure, compromises can be made, and situations can be made to work but...

Say introvert extrovrt are the opposites. Would that evr work? Inevitably someone will end up playing up or down their personality.

Ok, i think i've confused myself too.

interesting topic! wanted to write yesterday but i was just really busy.

uhm i think that similar people will make a better couple, but different people can still make a good couple, as long as they understand each other and can tolerate their differences.

i know what you're trying to say but perhaps your cat and dog example is not serious enough. what about couples with different religions? different ideologies? different views on a particular subject? different views on sex, marriage and children?

I think that such couples would face troubles in their relationship, although there are probably some who can survive. for example, my friend told me that her parents are both very different yet they still love each other. surprisingly.

in some cases, i think that it could be helpful instead. for example one is active and the other is shy. then the active one could help the shy one to be more expressive perhaps. or to be less shy. or, a more common example, a moron and a genius. the smarter could help the less one. stuff like that.

but at other times when the opposite is serious, it could definitely bring about problems and they're probably incompatible. but well some people could handle it! though i think that it's better to find someone with a lot of similarities to you. it is indeed interesting, so if you know something further please do share.

exactly! I thonk differences can be beneficial in some circumstances but in others can pose as a bit of a barrier. Religion is like this. When you're in highschool and in a relationship with different religious views, it isn't much of a problem. However, when it becomes more serious and involves something like marriage, differences matter. Someone ultimately has to compromise their beliefs.

Personally, i generally prefer the company of people who agree with my views or see the world as i do. It can be a litle infuriating bumping heads with people.

How about senses of humour? It would be preety dry no getting each other's jokes...

In response to my previous post there was no chicken analogy. I was simply stating fact :)

Opposites can be awesome but when one is a militant athiest and the other is entrenched in their religious views but they both love debating then no they probably won't work.

If we went to a comedy show and I couldn't stop laughing whereas she just couldn't stop complaining then It's most likely going to be a problem.

Relationships involve compromise too.

:ditto:

I think that sense of humour isn't a big deal. might be a little awkward but don't think it's a big deal.

what would be gross is an atheist with a strongly religious partner.

arrrgh! That would be so annoying!!!! I hate religious discussions!! :@ when we have them at school they drive me insane! Doesn't help that thereks this one guy who's crazily christian and he full argues everything, even if it has nothing to do with the discussion. He believes the world is only 6000 years old or something...
And people trying to convert other people get under my skin too!!

What about people who like sweet food and others who like savoury? It wouldn't be very romantic wanting to share a sundae, when the other person would rather a hamburger... :S

food... I think the other should just go with it really. unless one is a vegetarian and the partner wants to share some food with veggie then that's a problem. but if it's just like the sundae VS hamburger thing then it shouldn't be a problem, unless the partner is allergic to sundae/hamburger...
