Can you take an AP exam without taking the class if you study for it independently?
Has anyone ever done this?
It costs money, right? Does anyone know how much?

Yes you can take the AP exam without ever having taken the class. Just ask your principal/guidance counselor to make arrangements for you to take it.
Many people have done this. This one guy in my SL math class took the AP Chinese exam without ever taking a class for it. Also what happens quite often at my school is IB students take an AP exam in the corresponding subject (i.e. AP Biology if they were in HL Biology) in case the university they're planning to attend does not offer credit for that subject or they want a backup just in case the IB exam doesn't go well or they don't score high enough to earn credit through their IB exam.
It will usually cost a fee (somewhere in the mid-high 80 US dollars) but you can sometimes get a waiver. Ask your counselor if you qualify for a fee waiver.

I will be taking AP exams for the corresponding IB exams. Im taking the exam but not the class for Biology, Spanish, Calculus AB, and English Language
I'm not sure about cost though as my school covers those.
