Hi, I'm in a group for English and we are doing a presentation on the topic of power in the play Antigone, by Sophocles. We also have to relate it to a modern day example (movies, music, people etc). Does anyone have any ideas or examples we could use? Also any help in expanding upon this topic would be welcome. Thank you!

antigone was a long time back for me, also I read it in A1HL German but the content is the same so I'll try to give a few helpful pointers.
  • Creon abuses his power of being King, this results in the death of family members, including his wife and his son, Antigone of course too (not blood related).
  • Creon feels as though he has obtained so much power, that he can decide over his people, in reality he attempts to take the role of the Gods, is punished accordingly .
  • Creon is blinded by power, thereby making decisions which he ultimately regrets. When he is having the argument with Antigone and the argument with Haemon, he is unable to accept other viewpoints because he thinks that he has to be right and powerful
can't think of any more. sorry. maybe I'll remember some other stuff later. I think you would have to focus on Creon here though (mainly). However if it is not just about "too much power" but also generally about "power" I am sure that you can include Antigone and the Gods possibly.

Greetings
