For a group presentation we were given the theme of power and the dangers of excessive power in Antigone. One of our motifs is how it affects family ties. Any advice on his topic? Also, we need a contemporary example.

A motif is a repeated image? So I don't think you mean motif :P

Anyway, advice-wise... re-read Antigone (it's extremely short) looking for examples of what you're after perhaps? There are loads of them that I can think of. It might also be a good idea to look at the inverse: what happens to people with no power (and (hint) what they resort to, given that they are powerless...). After all, the contrast between the two is part of what highlights the theme within the text.

A contemporary example, assuming you have a more than fleeting association with world politics, you honestly could pick from a massive, massive number of current political situations in various countries. Perhaps look at a newspaper? I really don't think it'll take you long to find some government somewhere doing bad things because they have excessive power. To be honest I'm more alarmed that you need help thinking of some!

Watching the news and keeping track of what's going on in the world is a good and enlightening thing to get into
