So my IAs are due tomorrow, and although I have four commentaries completed one of them has a date of 2007. Our teacher didn't tell us about the six-month rule until it was too late and I have no time to redo it with a similar article. My question is -
how important is it for the article to be recent? Will I lose points in a certain criterion or will my commentary be cancelled altogether?
Please do reply soon, it's due tomorrow and I need to find out if it's worth just lying about the date or sacrificing a few points!

Yes, you will lose points. I'm not sure how many (1-2 I guess), but of course you commentary won't be cancelled.

I had no idea there was a six month rule. Thank you for mentioning this. I've asked around and it doesn't look too terrible to go outside the time period, but I'm guessing they added a limit to make sure that we aren't analyzing the same topics year after year, otherwise there's a really high potential for people to just share their IAs. Thanks again for putting that out there, and if I hear any more on the topic, I'll come back and let you guys know!

I don't think the rule is 6 months. I'm pretty sure that the guidelines dictate that the article should be written in less than 12 months before the examination session of the candidate. Ask your teacher in order to be on the safe side.
And yes, it is a bit bad to lose marks at this criterion. Of course, if you are not aiming to get a 7 then there should not be any problem.

the new rule says that the article must be 1 year before you write the article, else you lose 1 of the 3 marks in the rubric
