Do universities care more about your overall IB score or whether you took language A or B?

I'm fairly fluent in my second language, but I don't know if I should take HL language B or SL language A. I will definitely get a higher score if I take HL language B, but what will universities prefer? A high overall IB score or if I took A or B? I am taking HL english A too. (I'm planning to go into law if that helps) Thanks!

for Law, if you want to study in an English-speaking country, I think they would like you to take English A, at least English A Language and Literature SL.
go for it if you can.
good luck!

I meant, should I take language B or A for my second language (not English)?

2nd language doesn't matter. Universities most likely wouldn't care as long as it's not the language spoken in the country you're aiming to study at.
However, overall IB scores matter, so it all depends on you, would you challenge yourself? or take the easy route?
I personally took both language A's, as i'm reasonably fluent in both languages even though i'm not that good.

ohh haha sorry sorry. ok, I don't think they would have any particular preference on that unless you plan to study/work in a country that uses that language as the main language. just go for language B, it won't hurt you.

I would say go for A language if you can handle it, since I think if you are considering A then you are most likely too advanced for B HL. It goes down to whether you want to be challenged or if you want to get a good grade, but not really get as much out of the course and be bored in lessons.

Just do two language A's. I'm doing it right now (Both HL) and it's fine.

I'd say don't do it. In fact I think you will probably get better recognition if you score well in language B (the fact that you know a second language well means more than that that you know your "native" language well). I take two languages A though and I can tell you it's not very difficult, kind of like taking the same class twice (but in a different language). If you have a good teacher it can even benefit you in your English class. Of course, you still have to read plenty of books, write WL papers, etc. But if you think that you can score better in language B HL (plus especially in the UK HL scores are important) then go for it.

For the second language...B is fine.
