Hi,

For my individual French oral (ab initio), I've decided to cover the topic of technology use in schools/colleges. Now, I have plenty of arguments for tech. use but I'm having trouble finding logical arguments against.

Any ideas?

Thanks

P.S. I know this is regarding French but I thought it would be more appropriate to put it here since I'm doing it all in English. :)

Loss of skills - being able to write essays at the kinds of speed needed in exams if you do stuff with a laptop, writing legibility and various life skills that are lost.
Not writing things down removes one of the methods of imprinting it.
Availability of material in a technological format stops people paying attention.
Technology can go wrong and break down.
Lack of versatility - can't really change things on a powerpoint in the way you can spontaneously write new things on a board.
More electricity wasted!

etc.

Adding to the above, you could say how laptops in class may distract students. Moreover, you could say how some people can't afford the technology and it'd create differences and bullying between students.

It's not really good for the eyes to spend the whole day in front of a screen..And one thing I'm noticing, is that teachers very often lack skill when it comes to using tech equipment. It's ridiculous when our physics teacher is trying to write an equation to what we call a "smart-board" and it takes like 5 minutes because he doesn't really know how to use it. This kind of undermines the whole purpose of using tech in class rooms. But then again there's a teacher who's really good with them, and he can really make good use of  the smart-boards.

Picure of a smart-board for those who don't know what they are..  http://tinyurl.com/sometimestechsucks

And the tech isn't so good yet, it'd often be a alot easier and clearer if teachers just used the "traditional" methods. Also, the tech distracts the teachers quite often. The teachers take pictures of a text books page and then project it to the screen to show us something. But do you know what? We still have the books and they could just tell us the page number and then explain it. So sometimes it's really more about "playing" with the tech. And don't you think that if we always used computers/tablets etc. a lot of students would just start copy-pasting the answers, instead of at least writing them.
