Shug0i
Hi, I need a liitle bit of help here and want to hear if you think "Can knowledge about other cultures be recieved by cultural stereotyping?" sounds too general as a tok question. I've planned to talk about cultural stereotyping so I'm not even sure if I want to talk about it in this way. Reply
marauder7
Yes, it is too general.Try to limit it by relating it to a way of knowing.Maybe you could limit your presentation by using a specific example. For example, a friend of mine did his presentation on symbols among cultures. as a specific example he used the swastika and how cultural paradigms limit the way we interpret that symbol.try to do something similargood luck Edited March 17, 2012 by marauder7 1 Reply
CkyBlue
It doesn't sound bad in my opinion. The way you phrased it is a bit awkward though, but I'm sure you will use the right words since you're probably not doing TOK in English. TOK questions don't really have to be specific or too general; as long as you have some sort of focus to your presentation as you introduce it and go along with it, it doesn't really matter how broad or specific it is; you will be able to do fine.Find aspects of your knowledge issue that you will be able to explore using just a few WoKs and AoKs, but don't evaluate all of them; the time permitted to you does not allow an effective analysis of that. Since you're going to be talking about cultural stereotyping, begin thinking about what is associated in stereotyping in TOK-land. Perception, culture backgrounds or history, (just some ideas off my head) - or a combination? Think about how we can use those things in stereotyping to acquire knowledge- remember at the same time, you must consider and acknowledge their limitations. 1 Reply
