Hello guys,

I am a candidate from the middle east, i recently viewed my results on the web, and i was totally devastated, all grades were fine, except my physics, i scored 2, that shock me to the limit, i have conditional offers from universities stating that i should get 27 points in Ib, my total is exactly 27 but i failed an Hl subject with that 2 and im not awareded the diploma, i cant understand how i got 2, im realy good at physics, i got a full mark in my internal assessment, i scored a 6 in Maths, its not rational to score 2 in physics, i requested a remark, and i wana know how exactly did i get 2, does anyone know the grade method for physics HL, as in the percentage of the 3 papers and the internal assessments?

please help me, i couldnt sleep yesterday because of this, do you guys know anything i can do? i need to pass that subject.

may be there's a mistake or something?

Don't worry you can retake the subjects you want in november. I know lots of people who did that :)

Physics IA ( the lab reports) 20%
Group 4 project: 4%

Paper1: 20 %
Paper2: 36 %
Paper3: 20 %

In may 2011 (cant say if its the same this year, dont know the mark boundaries) you "already" have a 3 with 27%,
if I were you I would check with your IB coordinator ASAP to ask if there might have been a mistake (make an enquiry) and how much the IA's in your class were marked down (they usually are marked down, only very rarely marked up)

Grade inflation? and it's possible your IA's were moderated down a lot. My school's IA were once moderated down 30 points.

even if some (lazy ass) people dont do their IA at all and they just write down basic ideas and maybe get some basic points, but they do well in their exams they can still get 5s and 6s (7 as well actually but they would have to do really really well on their exams),
if the thread starter is as good in physics/maths as he said he should have gotten a 3 or higher even if the IA magically disappeared

Edit: I also dont think its grade inflation, I wrote the same exams (HL and tz2) and my teacher said I would probably get a 5 with how well I did in my IAs and how he thought I would do in the exams.
I thought I did **** in the actual IB exams and somehow ended up getting 6.

Just wait for the enquiry, keep in contact with your ib coordinator and it should work out
How do you think you did in your physics exams btw?

Well then, request a remark. If it's close, I'm sure it'll be bumped up to a 3 at the very least and you'll get your diploma.

First of all, chill.

You did all that there is to be done.
In the worst case, you will miss a year. Many students choose to skip a year, it may actually prove very benefitial and get you into an even better college.

But again, the examiner might have been extremely strict and your mark will be raised.

So, relax and think rationally before jumping off a bridge

Jumping of a bridge huh? so this is a joke to you? well i wouldnt blame you, you are probably living in a nice sweet area in greece chillin out, in case you noticed the flag under my name says Bahrain, you wouldnt have a clue on how life is it where i come from, and how damn hard is to create a studying environment, you cant imagine what scholars like me have to go through everyday just by going to school, let me give you a hint, go google and type Bahrain, maybe then you will learn to choose your words more carefuly rather than speaking daggers.

I'm sure Fani meant that as an exaggeration. No one is taking your situation as a joke, and I agree with Fani that you should let your feelings calm down before doing anything.

I know this is frustrating, but you should not have come here if you don't want to read the comments. Now, take a big breath and wait to see for regrading. No need for free insults. A flag doesn't mean she's tanning herself all day long at the beach. You know, Greece is not that in good shape economically anyways.

By the way, I looked for Bahrain on Google and it looks beautiful (at least some harbours and palms I saw).

maybe you can appeal to the moderator for your mark, of course with good justification...
