Chemistry SL Paper 1 & 2

How were the Chemistry exams for you guys?

Paper 1 was relatively easy excluding some questions such as the one asking the color of the solution in the universal indicator or the other one asking of the proporties of substances (for example, a metal being dense). Besides that, the exam wasn't too hard.

Paper 2 had some confusing questions at the start (i didn't understand when it asked the percentage of iodine and then it practically asked the same result in the following question). The rest of Section A wasn't hard, just some definitions and a bond enthalpy question. Finally, Section B (question 4) was easy compared to question 5 or question 6. I think that the one who did question 5 was really a brave guy (or a reckless one) and i didn't do question 6 because i got bored of doing the Organic Chem question in nearly every mock i had.

Hoping that Paper 3 isn't that hard though.

Im assumimg standard level had the same iodine question with the caesium and titration. The first part was asking you to take the percentage by mass theoretically, so the molar mass of iodine over the entire molar mass of the compound. The second part was concerning the experimental data, so it would have been half the moles of the titre, which I think involved Barium sulfate?

Would have expected a percentage error question afterwards using the two values, which was strangely omitted. Either way, the answers I got were only marginally different.

Alright if that's the case then i did that question correct. The other one i'm not too sure is the one in which you had to draw the line spectrum of hydrogen, and show the transitions to the UV series and VL series. Besides that, i'm sure i did everything else in the exam right.

That wasn't in our exam but in that case you've got to show the energy levels converging at higher energies, electron transitions to n = 1 being UV, to n = 2 being visible light, n = 3 being IR, not sure if the names (Balmer, Lyman, Paschen) are necessary, and labelling the y-axis with energy I think?

I agree Section A paper 2 was relatively easy compared to some of the practice papers we've done - the overall bond enthalpy question was fab, as was the first question. Pretty sure I made a silly mistake in the middle question early on, so hopefully they use error-carried-forward marking! Also Hus I was completely expecting a percentage error question too, given the nature of the question - weird that they omitted that!

In Section B I did question 5 (actually everyone in my class did question 5) which was the acids and bases one. I loved this question - interesting that you didn't, Ipos Manger - perhaps says something about the focus of the teaching in different countries!?

And I thought Paper 1 was a very decent paper. I know I made a few silly mistakes, particularly in one of the easy quantitative questions (did 3x the grams instead of 1.5x the grams!!! Silly silly), but I though overall it was a good paper. Can't wait for tomorrow to be over - good luck everybody!

I'm surprised you all found P1 to be easy; I found it really difficult, probably one of the more confusing and tricky papers I've done. :/ I felt fine with P2 though; no hiccups there. I'm confident I did really well in that one, although I don't think my distinguishing between continuous and line spectra were precise enough (I did Q4, the atomic theory question).

well though Paper 1 was the most difficult I've done (probably because I was nervous) I think I did very fine there, on the other side I found Paper 2 way easier than others, but I'm not that surer about my calculations on the first question, does somebody know if in one of the sub-questions of the 1st one you had the same answer as to one of the other subquestions? If that's so, then I'd be really happy. If not, I'll have to get 40/40 on Paper 3 :(

I totally agree! But I think I got a similar answer aka pretty much the same in that first question. I couldn't find a mistake when I went over it, so hopefully it's alright!

What was the questions in paper 1 concerning the colour of solution and the properties?

Pretty much can someone tell me all the questions they can remember from paper 1 & 2? Would really help!!! Thanks
