SL Theatre RI Topic Help

So my Theatre teacher is really of no help to the IB students at my school; and after she gave us the wrong instructions twice, I don't trust her judgment on the assessments. The trouble I'm having is I keep changing my paper to more of a literary than what is described by the instructions. I have chosen Top Girls, which is a historical drama and political satire. I have chosen my topic to be something on the lines of how I would plan the visual design of Top Girls in a way which would show the universal applications to the theme and make it an effective piece of satire. Does this seem like a reliable topic?

EDIT:

After reading more, I realized that I was still taking it in the wrong direction. Like I said, my teacher has no knowledge of the assessments. I was literally making a visual design for the play, but I read that that is incorrect. Other than that, how does my topic look?

You should pick a specific aspect of a play or theatre piece from a chosen theatrical practice to research and then formulate a research question to answer. In other words, pick a specific play and pick something from the play (example: special effects) to research. My RI focused on how puppeteers were able to execute special effects in a specific Vietnamese Water Puppetry play. It would be more helpful to help you if you would give an actual research question.

By the way, I was in IB theatre SL last year and my teacher offered no guidance. Several of us in the class gave up on him and did everything ourselves. THERE IS HOPE. We did everything ourselves and all of us passed. It is up to you to do well if your teacher will not help you. Don't give up.

I am sorry to read that your teacher has been of no help. For the RI you need to start with the PRACTICE. You choose an unfamiliar practice, research it and find an ASPECT of the practice that you are interested in, and you then find a PLAY from the practice that includes this aspect.

For example, you may love Kabuki theatre, research it and find there is a lot on the Onnagata, and how a man plays a woman. You would then find a play that includes a woman. You do NOT need to refer to the whole play, you can refer to one or two scenes that include the woman. You then write how a man would play the role, referring to the needs of the play and backing up with your research.

If you have not written your RI yet, then send me your question and I can give you some feedback.
