joeking
I need a 7 in this course. And, I'm averaging at a 5 (peaked at a 6 at one point). Are there any books you would recommend I use? Any and all advise please. Reply
maroctam
I use the pearson book - I think it's really good. However, I don't think it's about the books as much as it is about determination and constant practice. I think the best way to get a high grade in math especially is to familiarise yourself with the types of questions you might get as most questions tend to be very similar. So, I think you should try official IB questions (whether it be in your textbook or past papers, it doesn't really matter) as much as possible in order to know how to approach certain types of questions and improve/practice your skills as much as possible. 4 Reply
Dwight K Shrute
I agree with macrotam. Books will only provide you with the 'basic knowledge'. Use past papers and practice real exam questions, this will help you a lot more. My teacher always gives us a bunch of exam questions before the tests and it helps far more than doing the practice questions from the book.So just google around and you should be able to find quite a lot of past papers Reply
Lero
Get your hands on the IB questionbank which can be found hovering around the Interwebs, a quick google search should get the job done. Any and all advise please. I loved the IBID book by Fabio Cirrito (see, I even remembered his name!). It was a slightly more "advanced" book in that the examples were very fast, so you'll take a bit more time to actually learn the content. The breadth of questions given is phenomenal though. There's loads of "routine" questions to get your muscle memory working, and then they hit you with a bunch of questions that stretch your knowledge in the topic and allow you to discover things for yourself, before finally really stretching you with cross-topic questions. It's really good stuff. Get your hands on the latest version of this book. Along with this, of course, exam questions are of great importance. Its fairly easy to download a whole bunch of them with about ten seconds of googling 3 Reply
joeking
Where do you get the book from? It costs USD 300 to get it shipped to my place which is ridiculous (from the IBID website). I don't know of any local book shops selling the book Edited February 15, 2014 by joeking Reply
