Ellchurch
HiI amazing to do IB next year and i am trying to decided which maths level to do, as I would like to do economics and uni but I know they will only accept HL.If I was going to be doing a levels maths and further maths will I be able to do HL at IB as I have been told that it is much harder than either of those at I failed a test to do HL maths?? Thanks Reply
elaifyanre
I'd say HL has approximately A level math+AS level further math, they have some non-overlapping contents though. So if you are capable of doing A level FM then I think you'll be fine. Bude
Overall, the questions you'll find in IB Maths are trickier than A level questions. From what I've seen so far, A level Maths exams are a sort of tick list of whether you can do this or that, but the IB questions really need thinking to do. A level Maths and FM will have more content overall (you're comparing 2 A levels with 1 HL subject so...).If you practise though, you'll get used to the questions and it shouldn't be too difficult. If you are going to do IB HL Maths though, I seriously recommend keeping your maths skills ticking over the summer holiday before you start; do some FSMQ questions or whatever, just to make sure your algebra is very strong.
