Percentages for Foreign Language?

Recommended Posts

Hey! So I was just wondering what the percentages for each of the language B requirements are.

For example, on the Orals done in class, (Watching the movie & discussing it, class debate, etc) I got a 5 on each of those.

On the practice paper 1 I got a 5 and the practice paper 2 I got a 3. (I know those two practices don't count)

I don't know what I got on my actual oral (The one where you study a picture for 15min and then talk about it for 3-4 min and have a discussion on it with your teacher for another 6-7min) but I know for a fact I bombed it. I got in the room, the teacher asked if I was ready, I went to take a deep breathe to calm my nerves and halfway through my breath she pressed the button for me to start...and I choked. Like really choked. It took me 3 tries to correctly say "Me llamo" so yeah, I know I did bad on it, plus I forgot the word for crown (my picture was about 3 kings day) so I said sombrero.

Anyways, I guess what I'm asking is basically for the percentages of how much these are because I don't want my oral grade to result in me failing Spanish. I don't need it for college, but I would love to get some credit for it just in case there's a language requirement.

The internally assessed part is 30% total divided into the individual part and group part. The individual oral is 20% of your final grade. The group orals are 10% of your final grade.

The externally assessed part (exam) is 70% total. Your paper 1 exam is worth 25%, paper 2 is worth 25%, and your written assignment that you should have done in class is worth 20%.

So yeah, just do really well on your exam portion and you can make up for a really bad oral presentation. :)

Thanks!!! I think I can pull through okay. I remember doing the practice written assignment and I got a very high 3, and when we redid it I know I did a lot better so I'm hoping for a high 4 on it.

The key to doing well in paper 2 is to make sure you answer every part of the question/task asked of you in some way in your paper. Try to be creative with it. If they ask you to write an e-mail, make your paper format look like an email. I remember on my exam (HL, but the task is essentially the same) I had to do an email and I made up email addresses and drew on the border of the writing space to look like a web browser. Search bar, bottom task bar, the whole enchilada (get it, hispanic food haha). They like that stuff. Also, make sure you throw in a couple of idiomatic expressions and colloquial language. Memorize a few of these that can apply to lots of situations. Things like "tomar a pecho" (take to heart) and "darse cuenta de que" (realize) are good ones to know. Sprinkle these into your writing, and you'll score a little better.

Thanks you!! (Haha the whole enchilada! I get it :P) Super helpful! I just need to be on the lookout for those idiomatic expressions! And that's neat about the web browser and stuff for my practice paper 2 I did the email one. I put date, time, subject, email addresses, and then the message, but I forgot that you can make it look like an actual online thing. I guess that's why I got 4 out of 5 for the format.
