Kaushalz Posted April 21, 2014 Report Share Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Hey, I was just wondering after doing a few past papers, how strictly will the examiners follow the mark scheme when marking a paper? For instance paper 2 in Chemistry? I have done some of the Chemistry paper 2's, but when I mark myself, the mark scheme often has "marking points" which are given in different words from my answers, even though they have the same meaning. Also when doing calculations I notice that there are "marking points" that I sometimes do not write down even though I obtain the correct final answer. For the record, this happens to me when doing Physics past papers as well and it bothers me cause I don't really know how many marks I should award myself when revising. Surely, it is impossible to write excactly like in the mark scheme? So for those who have already finished with the exams, or for any IB examiner on this site... How strict are the IB examiners when marking a paper? Are they like children of the devil or do they award marks as long as the student gives a reasonable answer? elaifyanre Posted April 21, 2014 Report Share Posted April 21, 2014 For word answers there's something called "OWTTE" (or words to that effect) so if the markscheme says this then you're fine (as long as your answer is not too off).If the marking points are in brackets then you're fine with not writing them out (but your following work has to imply that you used the correct value/method).
