French B EE: Forming a question

Hello, I am doing my extended essay in French B. I feel like there is just so much possible things to explore, unlike group 4s, which has a lot of limitations in what you can do an experiment on. (I switched from Bio to French and suddenly I feel quite lost)

I do have some ideas of what I want to do, but I have troubles forming the reseach question. (I just don't know how to word it)

1. I want to talk about the evolution of language, and how language became simpler and simpler, using examples like how abbreviations are so commonly used, how modern colloquialism is considered "uneducated", or not sophisticated enough in the past. As a timeline of how language has been losing its role in communication, as people prefer visuals, simpler, faster messages, shorter words etc., what events in history pushed this loss of role of sophisticated language? Convenience wouldn't be a reason because back then, it was considered poetic and classy to use fancy words. There is a change in values and perspectives, but what, along the timeline, pushed this? Broadly speaking, what made it necessary for language to change? But I'm nont sure how to form a question for this.

Also, this topic is not French-specific enough, but if I use examples that is tied to the French culture, I think it'll be fine...

2. Since l'Academie Française defines rules of the French language, how does that define some of the things that people can say or cannot say, and therefore restricting ideas/values in the French population? (Not sure if this makes sense...)

3. Comparing English and French (is that allowed), and focusing what French speakers emphasize. I find it very interesting that in English we may say, "Can I borrow a piece of paper" or "Can I have a piece of paper", but in French you wouldn't say "Est-ce que je peux emprunter une feuille de papier". Although it is gramatically correct, it simply isn't what people say for that specific intention. So what does the French language focus on? One example is that in French, adjectives go after nouns, emphasizing on the importance of nouns. I can also relate this to culture. Is this topic a bit overdone? I want to do something new(at least not done everywhere), and not boring.

Any tips and suggestions are sincerely appreciated!

Hello Yucia! How are you?

I'm glad there are a few people who were curious enough to post something about their French B extended essay. Is it just me or is it relatively hard to find material on how to go about it? I know it's been a while since this post but I came here in search for advice for my own extended essay. I really like your first and last topics. They are very interesting although would probably require a substantial amount of research I bet! Please do let me know if you chose to continue your extended essay in French B. I would love to hear how you went about it and what struggles you might have faced. If you have done it in the subject I hope you wouldn't mind my sharing the topic I would like to pursue for my essay. I am currently in year 1.

Thanks and Good luck!
