Should I do IB VizArt in HL or SL?

I'm already entering my second year of IB Art  and I originally chose HL but now that I fully know what to do I'm not sure about HL.

My first year I sort of knew what to do with my IWB but I've realized that my stuff isn't sufficent enough and I'm going to do it the right way this year but is it even possible to do HL in one year? I'm kind of scared. I feel as if I could do it but i'm scared that I wont score high enough considering how the people who HL at my school in the past did not score high enough (and they were great artists too). My art teacher isn't really much help so I'm on my own here.

Any suggestions?

Your experience with IB art sounds a lot like mine! Essentially, IB1 for IBVA was pretty ok at the beginning, the studio a bit weaker, but still good enough. My level of quality in the studio work however, began to fall until I reached a giant dip in the end of IB VA for IB1 for VA. I took a break from IB art during the summer and literally looked at everything art related.

Any exhibit in my area? You could count on me being there. I also took the time to relax, and thing a lot about what art meant to me.

When I returned, I worked so hard at art it's actually rather terrifying! Free time? Yeah, I'm in the art room. Time after school? Yeah. I'm there. Free weekend? yeah, I'm there! It was a true test of juggling my IB subjects, but somehow I managed.

I also managed to produce roughly 11 pieces of work within that time (4 of them in one month!), making it into the requirements with 13 pieces.

I would say with the right (aka, extreme) amount of dedication and self motivation, it is most certainly possible to produce all the work that you need for HL art. it will be a hard journey, and you might not even be sure about it, but if you keep on pushing and working on your own and thinking as analytically as you can about your art, it will show in the quality of your studio work and IWB.

also I cannot emphasise this enough- please please please please PLEASE use your IWB for everything related to IB art. Never mind if it's a ranting essay on how you need to 9and want to improve), it is what the IB wants to see. They want to see YOU using your IWB at the center of your IB art working, so please always keep your IWB with yourself and write everything in it!

best of luck!

anything else, ask me :)

Thank you for replying!!

I was beginning to think nobody was going reply. I had a feeling I was going to have to dedicate myself if I HL. I think I can do it, I just have to make sure I stay on track. TO THE ART ROOM I GO!

Also, did you focus on your IWB or your portfolio? If you don't mind me asking.

:)

ACK WHOOPS sorry for the belated reply!! (uni visas etc)

to answer you

I focused mostly on my IWB because that was the way I just worked. I have classmates who did the reverse and too, managed a 7. Just so you know, I did HL A even though I'm stronger in my IWB because I wanted myself to push myself harder when it came to producing my studio work as I was weaker in that aspect.

it did actually work; I ended up with 19 for my IWB and 17 for my studio work, which makes for an adjusted % of 89, a lvl 7.

However I had classmates who just missed a 7 and might have scored much better doing HL B (our whole cohort was HL, and we all took option A for varying reasons)

for that very reason, I would be careful about which major you pick when you have to choose when being registered. that said, work-wise, I don't think there's any better or worse method of working; focus on whatever works for you- just remember to work in the iwb while working so it's genuine! (IBO doesn't worry too much about appearance of iwb, so that's not an issue XD)
