Will my IA Criterion E lose marks if I use topics that are both in SL and Studies?

Hello,

I would like to ask, if I'm using math like Progressions, Statistics in my IA, which are studied by both Math Studies and SL students, will I lose marks for Criterion E (use of mathematics)?

Because it's stated that I will be awarded maximum TWO marks out of SIX if I use math that is below my level. So for topics that are covered in both Studies and SL, am I using topics that are "lower level"?

For example, I'm using geometric progressions to calculate compound interest. And the usual statistics for graphs. And since it's pretty straightforward, I can't see how I'm suppose to "up" the level. :(

Anyone can clarify this? Thanks a bunch!
