Literature EE- American Dream

Forever Stressed

Recommended Posts

I have decided to compare and contrast "The Great Gatsby" and "Of Mice and Men". I am looking at how the theme of the impossibility of the american dream is portrayed in these books. However I'm not sure that "Of Mice and Men" is the best choice to compare with Gatsby. What do you guys think? Is this overdone? What about "Death of a Salesman" compared with either Gatsby or "Of Mice and Men"?

Of Mice and Men does indeed cover the American dream, at least when the two main characters are discussing what they'll do in the future. The first book that comes to my mind about the American dream though is The Grapes of Wrath. I don't know anything about the Death of a Salesman I'm afraid.

I think you've got a good topic, and I don't know if it is overdone or not. Since the IB is international, I'd highly recommend either defining the "American Dream" or rephrasing it.
