crappingmyself
Hi,I'm currently doing an DCPCE IA for kinetics and I'm a bit confused So the aim is ' to investigate the rate of this reaction as a function of the sodium thiosulfate concentration.' Basically in the experiment we took different sodium thiosulfate concentrations, and a constant amount of HCl and reacted them. We then timed how long it took for us to be unable to see the bottom (colour change). So to find the rate of reaction, do I use1. (rate = 1/time) or2. (rate of reaction = - change in reactant concentration/time taken) or3. (rate = k [A)mn)?I'm thinking that I don't use 2. because I don't have the change in concentration, as I only timed how long the reaction took. But I'm unsure in which to use. And am I supposed to find the 'constant rate of reaction', or the 'rate of reaction'? Edited August 23, 2014 by crappingmyself Reply
crappingmyself
Are you taking SL or HL?For SL, you would be expected to plot a graph of 1/time against concentration of sodium thiosulfate and explain your results in terms of collision theory and the factors that affect the rate of a chemical reaction (in this case it would be the increasing concentration of the sodium thiosulfate that increases the rate of the reaction). You can review the factors that affect the rate of a reaction in this video if you like:http://youtu.be/GwcF3K_-WeYI'm taking HL chem, so do I find the rate constant?
