dannym
Hi guys! As the time has come and in a few days I will be starting my IB course I just wondered if you find it vital to buy some additional history books in order to manage well with History HL course as I have seen many offers from the former IB students encouraging to buy some books that are not actually course books, like "Mastering Modern World History (...)" and so on... What would you say? And if yes, would somebody be so king and make a list of books that may come in handy to cope with all History HL stuff? I would greatly appreciate it. 1 Reply
Emmi
What is your regional topic for paper 3? What are your options for paper 2? And what's your paper 1 topic? Everyone does different things, and knowing these will help us suggest other books to look into reading. Reply
itsnadia
I am starting IB2, and I am also doing History HL. If anyone can help me with some books as well, it would be amazing! I am doing Paper 2: Authoritarian and Single Party States, and Cold War. And Paper 3: South East Asia (China and Japan)! Reply
dannym
I am not 100% sure, but I guess I will be doing 20th century world history, that is all I know as I haven't been told any other information. I hope you will still find a way to help me. Reply

dannym
Thanks for the answear, that will certainly help me! But the amount of the books you listed in here kind of scare me, tho Is it even possible to flick through all of them ? Reply
Sceptyczka
You don't have to buy all of them (I haven't). In fact, you only need one textbook for IB History HL (probably the one that your teacher has chosen) and the list is just to give you some extra help. But the amount of the books you listed in here kind of scare me, tho Is it even possible to flick through all of them ? Nope, it's unnecessary but you will definitely more than 2 to have a more well rounded view of the events that you're studying. I would suggest going to a bookstore or seeing other IB students (older than you obviously) books and skimming through them to see which ones you like best. Either condense and focused of with pictures, colours etc. 1 Reply

Our teacher says its not necessary to buy extra History books, but you can if you want to increase your knowledge and understanding in the field.
