Physics Extended Essay

Hello people!

I would like to hear your opinion on my 'plan' for a Physics Extended Essay. I am planning on building a fuel cell of sorts, and then explaining the science behind it. Obviously it's a little more complicated than that but i've been advised not to let too much info out.

I will tell you what I'm trying to include in the EE:

-the process of building the model (an experiment plan, basically)

-reasoning behind its functioning (the explanation, which should constitute the bulk of the essay)

-possible improvements to increase the efficiency of the cell (which is something essential in an IB experiment plan)

Then there will be pictures of the model. I will try and include a memory card for some videographic evidence of the experiment, if it's allowed of course.

Now I know i've been very vague with the actual topic, for which i apologise, but the topic is surrounded by a little controversy. There is also very little, if any, published data on the fuel cell. A few tutorials here and there, but no 'hard science' explaining the whole thing. OH! I should also add that if my fuel cell works it's going to defy the 2nd law of thermodynamics. XD

Now 99% of the people reading this will think I'm crazy or suicidal. Truth is, I'm passionate about it. And unless I see a major flaw in my experiment, I will continue with the idea. If you would like to know more, PM me and I can try and explain things a little better (if it's possible, that is XD )

And finally, thanks for reading. I would like nothing more than to hear your constructive (positive or negative, i don't mind) comments/remarks.

Your fuel cell isn't going to defy a well-defined, mathematically proven, deduced from empirical evidence physical law of the universe that some of the most brilliant minds in science have theorized, unless this is some sort of exception to the rule (which has already been proven as well).

A fuel cell is still an appropriate topic, but you're not going to go against the law of the universe unless you make a mistake in your calculations (which is bad).

I completely understand what you have said. I also know that it's next to impossible for me to disprove a law of the universe, especially considering that I'm still doing the IB Diploma. However, I honestly wouldn't go up against the greatest minds of history without actually seeing the device in action.

Yet, I do agree that I will not be able to defy the 2nd law of thermodynamics, but my results will definitely have very high, almost unreal, levels of efficiency. I will, as a result, tweak my EE to support the idea of a highly efficient fuel cell.
