footballfan12
Hey everyone, My question is how difficult is Ib in the first 3 months? I'm starting IB1 this fall and I also have to juggle football which takes up 2 hours of my time after school per day. Football, however, only lasts 3 months of the school year. Will it be difficult to juggle the two? How much homework do you think the following classes will generate for the early parts of IB? Here are my first semester courses that I will be taking: English A HLTOKChemistry HLMath SlHistory SL Thanks in advance Reply
ultimateone
Hello! Welcome to the IB,I'm guessing you're studying the IB Certificate and not the Diploma Programme due to your 4 subjects.Judging on first sight, you have English at HL and History, which both include a lot of writing, so you should be prepared to read texts and/or write essays as homework a few times a week, not everyday though.Chemistry at HL would have a lot of Mathematics involved at the calculations section of the syllabus and the subject introduces concepts that take a while to understand depending on your ability. So again, there's a fair amount of work to be done. But since you're only talking about the early parts of the IB, there isn't AS much work AS later on during the course as the first few chapters are considered 'easier' than the later ones. So there shouldn't be a problem, and by all means it is possible to embark on other activities outside of school if you organise your time properly. In fact, students actually need to play and do something other than studying to relax and in order to perform well. Good luck! Reply
Paulius Gr
I'm also a new student at the IB program... Do you really think that 2 hours from your day will not leave you enough time for studying?I'm thinking about starting going to the gym 2 times a week for about 2 hours each time. I'm not sure about it, but I think 2 hours from my day would be as a relaxation before homework. What do you think? Reply
Sofia.
Shouldn't be a problem Actually, a bit of a break will probably be beneficial to your studies ^^ 1 Reply
footballfan12
I'm also a new student at the IB program... Do you really think that 2 hours from your day will not leave you enough time for studying? I can honestly say that it could be tough, mostly because I heard that IB can take up like 4 hours of homework per night. Honestly I hate doing homework after 10:00 pm. Crazy? Maybe, but that's just me. Hello! Welcome to the IB, I'm guessing you're studying the IB Certificate and not the Diploma Programme due to your 4 subjects. Actually, those are just the classes that I'm taking the first semester. I'm also taking Biology SL and French B HL Reply
neb120
From my experience the first few months of IB are not taxing at all, you should easily be able to do it. It's usually the second half that is the hardest Reply
Sandwich
Honestly, you should have no problem. I did 0-0.5 hours of homework throughout IB1, unless I had coursework to hand in! And that you can do at the weekends no problem. Also football will count towards CAS. It's just about managing your time - if you're given more homework than I was (and as that's set by your school teachers, not the IB, nobody can know how much you're going to have to do...), it's still do-able you just have to structure your day. In the US school usually finishes quite early (3pm?) so if that's also the case for you, you've got loads of time to play with after school. Plus you're starting out by only doing a few of your subjects, so that will also reduce the amount of homework. Reply
