Ab Initio Language Ab EE?

For extended essay, I've recently found out that for language Ab it doesn't have to be written in the language studied (unlike SL or HL) . What would the topic of the essay be (e.g. festivals?)?

I believe you are mistaken. A Group 2 EE (under which ab initio is included) must be written in that language studied, regardless of whether you take that language at HL or SL. You cannot write a Group 2 EE as an ab initio student because you will lack the language skills needed to produce a research essay entirely in another language, unless your school was doing something devious and let you take ab initio when you're fluent enough to do an EE.
