ibsurvivor92
So I have a problem I really enjoy learning biology and was one of the best in my class in 9 & 10. However, like all if us can relate, IB is not 9&10! Biology is getting tougher and its not that I cant cope with it except I have noticed that chemistry is being introduced into the syllabus and there's only one problem with that. I'm a commerce student!I dont know a thing about chemistry and I dont know whether bio HL is for me. My other option is to take foreign language HL ( Which i might die ) and CS sl or take CS HL and not take biology entirely Now I need you guys to discuss with me Should I take Biology HL having no background of chemistry or take Computer Science HL having no background of computer science =)) #lifeofanIBstudent Any input is welcome, honestly, I really enjoy this forum and the people in it seem to have great ideas! ultimateone
Hi Well for starters, it's obviously better to take Bio with no Chem experience than with CS with totally no CS experience.Especially as Chem plays a basic role in the Bio syllabus, mainly only overlapping in the Biochemistry section. But mainly, Biology has many other different concepts So I suggest you take Bio, and don't worry about the Chem part, you can either learn them (they only need the basics), or if you just are looking for a pass in the Diploma, then you can go through the Biology course without Chem at all, it's not a problem 1 Reply
Pink97
I personally think you're over thinking it. You probably started IB like 1-2 months ago, It's only natural that struggle with some of the material. You've literaly got 2 YEARS to get comfortable with the material, so relax. Doing biology without any chemistry is much easier than starting computer science from scratch. Computer science is reputed (at least in my school) to be a really challenging course where as biology is seen as much easier. Plus, you don't seem all that interested in doing computer science so why take it at all? Same goes for the foreign language HL. Take the subject you're more interested in as you're more likely to do better in it merely because you'll be willing to study more. I honestly think you're overestimating how challenging you're finding biology. I'm sure after a couple of month that you'll find the material manageable. Study a lot and make sure to ask your teacher for help whenever you get stuck and I'm sure you'll do well. Good luck! Reply
