Yonshii
Hi. I am currently working on my ToK presentation and because my teacher isn't quite as available to mail as i'd like her to be, I thought I might turn to you guys for help. I have established a KQ, and I think my AOK and WOK are quite okay. What do you think? To what extent can knowledge be prioritized over morality? And then, using Unit 731 as a RLE, I would create this KQ: To what extent can knowledge derived from natural sciences be of higher value than ethics? Alright. For this, my WOK would either be Emotion or Reason (Why not both?) Emotion: Our emotions influence our way of viewing ethics. Depending on what we may find ethical, our perspective will be different from someone else's. Anyway, our emotions could cause us to find this to be absolutely ludicrous and in no way should scientific research be of higher value than a human life. Emotion, then, will limit our knowledge about anything which causes harm. Reason, however, is cold. Logically speaking, if we are in need of researching a human body, we must naturally do so. Reason supports science. We must advance, no matter what the costs. Reason will allow us to learn a lot more, setting aside our human emotions and instead thinking about factual evidence. Then, I should put it into modern context. Animal testing, for instance. Majorly speaking, it is unethical to harm animals for the sake of our beauty, but it is anyway done, no? I might be on the completely wrong track. Please be strict. Reply
