Popular Post Sandwich
The answer to this question comes down to one thing - who exactly is it that decides what counts for CAS?? Answer: your CAS Co-ordinator! Not the IBO, not people here, not other schools and other CAS Co-ordinators, not your friends or your teachers... the individual person in charge of CAS at your school. You'd be amazed how much this varies between schools - some schools are happy for you to write online blogs and play videogames, whereas other schools would laugh in your face if you suggested those things as CAS. Some of you may even be laughing now - but if you could get CAS for those things, wouldn't you? So, if you want to be really 100% sure that an activity counts for CAS, please always check with this individual. People here might tell you yes or no - and they might be wrong! In which case you might end up doing an activity, think you have your hours and get told they don't count at the last minute, which would be a disaster! And we don't want that to happen to any of you... Feel free to ask questions about what activities you should do and so on, of course - we're not saying you can't ask this kind of question Just please be aware that the answer to whether something counts (unless somebody here happens to go to the same school as you and therefore has the same 'facts' about CAS) isn't necessarily something you can find a 100% bona fide answer to on this forum. All the best! IBS Staff 13 Reply
A_Happy_Monkey
Wait, you get your own personal CAS coordinator in IB? Excellent, that alleviates some of my pre- pre- IB stresses Reply
Emmi
Wait, you get your own personal CAS coordinator in IB? Excellent, that alleviates some of my pre- pre- IB stresses Usually it's just one CAS coordinator per school, but yes, you will have someone, usually one of you teachers, who will oversee all of the CAS projects, hours, etc. for everyone. If your IB class is large, such as mine was, you may also be assigned another person you'll meet with often to make sure you're making adequate progress. turtle turtle
But considering the IB has to audit your school, isn't it more up to the IB? e.g. isn't the 50 hour thing an IB rule Reply

And I don't think IB requires hours anymore. My school still does (we have to do at least 150 hours total and a minimum of 25 hours in each strand). But IB wants CAS to be a personal learning experience so I know some schools requires students to do a sort of personal project in each of the strands. Zenyae
Do online courses count? I've been working on a sign language course and I would also like to join a music theory course very soon. :> If so, do they have to be certified? How would I provide evidence for the course other than my reflection, and maybe, screenshots for the portfolio? If so, you could just have them sign your CAS hours. Otherwise, you'd need to get a certificate (that lists the hours preferably) for the course. 1 Reply
