History HL IA

Hello, I am new to the forum and I'm loving it so far. History HL is mandatory at my school, and I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. I was thinking of doing something related to Spanish, Finnish, or even Russian history.

I've been thinking I could compare Santiago Carrillo with Stalin, yet I am guessing I would have to narrow this a bit. How could I go about doing that? Do you think it would be a good idea?

I am quite lost to be honest, so I do not know how to approach this.

Maybe I could analyse a historical movie and see how well it portrays an event or conflict?

Any advice?

Thank you :)

You would go about doing a comparison EE by picking one or two things to compare (i.e. Hitler's domestic policies during his time in office versus Stalin's domestic polices during his time in office), and then comparing/contrasting them. Very simple. Whether it's a good idea or not depends on what you want to compare. Generally, they're fine.

Analyzing a movie and comparing it to the actual event is also fine.

I guess it could work for an EE, but would it be okay for an IA considering it is shorter in length?

It would also work for an IA. You'd just have to narrow your focus a little bit more due to the smaller word count. For example, an EE might compare three or four domestic policies between the two leaders, but an IA might compare just one or two of them instead.
