ak1998 Posted November 23, 2014 Report Share Posted November 23, 2014 i want to do either engineering or economics in college and currently my subjects are phsyics maths amd economics at the higher level and chemistry english and hindi at standard level and wish to apply to the top universities in USA. i am struggling with math hl and getting 4s and 5s while looking at the sl papers i know i could easily get a 7. so is it better to get a 5 in hl or a 7 in sl? In general (and especially for top unis in US), math HL is extremely important for both engineering and economics. So i recommend you to not drop maths. Even though it might be less stressful with an easy 7 in SL, but you would then have nothing to be proud of, because you are just choosing an easy way out. Besides, it's not like you'll keep getting 5 in HL. I see that your exam is in Nov 2016, so you'll have lots of time to improve. Search for tips to do well in HL on this forum and don't give up. I don't want to change it because it will make my ib subjects look easy. I have biology sl, Spanish a sl, sports sl and in HL I have business , maths and English. Plus, business I believe does not requrie Math at HL. Although I would confrim this by looking at the requirements online.
